STMicroelectronics has announced that two of its executives will deliver keynote speeches at SEMICON Taiwan 2016, 7th-9th  September, 2016. At the MEMS Forum, Benedetto Vigna, Executive Vice President and General Manager of ST’s Analog and MEMS Group, will provide his perspectives on some of the application areas and new opportunities for MEMS sensors and actuators across ST’s focus segments of Smart Driving and the IoT.

In his keynote for the Auto X Design Forum, Edoardo Merli, Director of Marketing and Application for ST’s Automotive and Discrete Group in Greater China, South Asia, and Korea, will speak about technology platforms for the car of the future. Merli’s keynote will highlight connectivity, processing platforms, infotainment, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) technologies, and sensor fusion in future smart cars.

According to Semico Research, the global MEMS market will continue its rapid growth, with 2015 MEMS sales exceeding $14.2bn Semico Research projects that MEMS sales will reach $28.7bn by 2020, growing at a CAGR of 15.1% between 2015 and 2020.

“Sensors and actuators, along with associated analogue technologies, are the critical building blocks that create interfaces between the real and the digital world,” said Benedetto Vigna. “This sector is exciting because as successful as we’ve been, we’re still far from exhausting the potential of MEMS in existing and derivative applications. Pokémon Go hunts have only been made possible with ubiquituous MEMS-laden smartphones, and the best is yet to come: the next waves of MEMS deployment will make homes, workplaces, cities, and vehicles more efficient, safer, and more enjoyable for people.”

With more than 11 billion MEMS devices shipped to date, ST has played a leading role in establishing MEMS technology in consumer and gaming devices (MEMS 1.0) as well as in automotive and industrial applications and micro-actuators (MEMS 2.0), and it is committed to using its technologies and expertise to help the customers transform the world for the better.

“Similarly, the transportation world is at the beginning of a significant transformation, with new requirements for efficiency, security, and safety. Smart Driving means continuous interaction of the vehicle with its environment through the increasing intelligence of the car driven by leaps in computing and geo-localisation capabilities,” said Edoardo Merli. “ST continues to develop more energy-saving and connected solutions for automotive applications including V2X, Safety, Infotainment, Telematics, Powertrain, and Car Body Electronics.”

With its broad automotive product portfolio, multiple platforms and technologies, ST is ready and committed to sustaining and supporting the dramatic changes in the automotive industry ultimately leading to New Energy, Autonomous Driving, and Always Connected Vehicles.

The SEMICON Taiwan 2016 MEMS Forum will take place on Wednesday, 8th September, 2016 at Room 504bc, Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1, from 9am to 5pm. The Auto X Design Forum will take place on Thursday, 9th September, 2016 at Room 402ab, Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1, from 9am to 5pm.
