EuMCE Prague provides mmWave device test platform
The newly created European Microwave Conference in Central Europe (EuMCE) in Prague (May 13-15) is being supported by Rohde & Schwarz. The T&M specialist will present products and solutions for applications ranging from wideband radar, shielded mmWave device testing and multiport device testing to thermal effects diagnostics.
As radar and electronic warfare technologies advance and become increasingly complex, test and measurement systems must keep pace. At EuMCE, Rohde & Schwarz will present the R&S Pulse Sequencer software, used in combination with the R&S SMW200A vector signal generator to deliver wideband radar signals like pulses and chirps for generating test scenarios.
Featuring ultra-long playtime through powerful real-time sequencing and support of direction finding scenarios consisting of moving emitters and a receiver, the solution follows the general trend of implementing more test sessions in the lab than in expensive field tests.
Also on display will be the R&S FSW signal and spectrum analyser. Featuring a wide range of measurement applications and an internal analysis bandwidth of up to 2GHz, it can analyse wideband signals from radar systems and jammers without an external digitiser. The R&S FSW analysis bandwidth can be extended up to 5GHz using an R&S RTO oscilloscope as an external digitiser to analyse ultra-wide signals like those used by automotive radars.
The R&S FSW real-time capabilities allow users to reliably detect extremely short sporadic interference in the nanosecond range even in close proximity to powerful carriers – in a bandwidth up to 800MHz.
As 5G technology edges closer, production and conformance testing has to tackle new technical challenges, such as measuring new frequencies in the mmWave band. To meet these requirements, Rohde & Schwarz has developed several class-leading solutions.
Among them is the R&S CMQ200, a 19in. shielding chamber. In combination with the R&S ZNA 43 vector network analyser, the R&S CMQ200 allows compact mmWave device testing in a shielded environment. The test solution will be demonstrated in Prague.
The testing of multiport devices often requires high measurement speed and high dynamic range. The true multiport architecture of the R&S ZNBT vector network analyser with two independent receivers per test port is the basis for fast and accurate measurement results. The R&S ZNBT is the first multiport vector network analyser that offers up to 24 integrated test ports and supports measurements up to 40GHz.
Thermal effects diagnostics on DUTs is crucial when analysing chipset and user equipment performance since device heating or cooling can affect the RF components and consequently the radiation pattern of the antennas.
Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate a setup for extreme temperature tests. The R&S ATS-TEMP climate option can be integrated into the R&S ATS1000 antenna test system and allows testing in a temperature range from –40 °C to +85 °C, making it possible for the first time to perform combined RF OTA and climatic testing in a single chamber.
The EuMCE event is organised by the European Microwave Association. It is modelled after European Microwave Week (EuMW).
