Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today introduced a new series of molded Microtan solid tantalum chip capacitors for space-constrained consumer electronics. TL8 series devices employ a high-volumetrically efficient packaging solution to enable the industry’s highest capacitance-voltage ratings in small case sizes down to 0805 with low profiles from 0.8 mm to 1.0 mm.
Vishay Sprague TL8 capacitors are offered in a variety of compact EIA standard footprints, including the 0805 (2.0 mm by 1.25 mm), A case (3.2 mm by 1.60 mm), and B case (3.50 mm by 2.80 mm). The devices feature high capacitance-voltage ratings from 3.3 µF-35 V to 220 µF-4 V, standard capacitance tolerances of ± 10 % and ± 20 %, and an operating temperature range of - 55°C to + 85°C, or + 125°C with voltage derating.

With their small case sizes and low profiles, the TL8 capacitors save board space for bulk capacitance, energy storage, filtering, and decoupling in the next generation of ultra-thin smartphones and other handheld, battery-operated consumer electronics. In addition, the devices’ high voltage ratings are ideal for OLED displays.

The capacitors’ lead (Pb)-free, L-shaped facedown terminations offer better mechanical and electrical contact to the solder pad than traditional facedown-style terminations. The RoHS-compliant devices conform to Vishay’s “Green” standards and are available in 8 mm tape and reel packaging per EIA-481.

Samples and production quantities of the TL8 capacitors are available now, with lead times of 10 weeks for larger orders.
