Toshiba Simplifies Display Integration for Next-Generation Handhelds
The TC358768 parallel-to-DSI bridge from Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) simplifies upgrading of displays in devices such as smartphones, media players and industrial instrumentation to deliver enhanced resolution and colour depth.
The Advanced displays for handheld products can demand multiple lanes of DSI connectivity to support the data rates needed for high screen resolution such as 720p, 1080p or 1920 x 1200, and colour depth up to 24 bits. The TC358768 LCD interface provides four data lanes, each capable of supporting up to 1Gbit/s per lane, and can be configured to use one, two, three or four lanes. This allows connection to a wide variety of display types and sizes as used in portable and embedded electronics. The host interface supports RGB888, RGB666 and RGB565 data formats, up to 166MHz clock speed, and VSYNC, HSYNC and DE polarity options. The IC also provides two GPIOs and a I2C/SPI slave interface.
The TC358768 is a 72-pin device in a miniature 4.5mm x 4.5mm x 1.0mm package with 0.4mm ball pitch suitable for mobile applications. The core logic and MIPI physical-layer circuitry operate from a 1.2V supply, and the I/O supply voltage range is 1.8V to 3.3V.
