In stock at authorised distributor Mouser Electronics is the DLP4620S-Q1 0.46" automotive digital micromirror device (DMD) from Texas Instruments.

Combined with the DLPC231S-Q1 DMD controller and TPS99000S-Q1 system management and illumination controller, the DLP4620S-Q1 DMD delivers a high-performance, high-resolution augmented reality head-up display (AR HUD). The DLP4620S-Q1 automotive DMD supports wide field-of-view AR HUDs, digital instrument clusters, and navigation and infotainment windshield displays.

The automotive DMD balances resolution and optical throughput, improving the driver experience with a wide field of view and large eye box.

Featuring a 2:1 aspect ratio, the DLP4620S-Q1 supports various display requirements for DMD-based automotive applications. The chipset, coupled with lasers or LEDs and an optical system, achieves 125% NTSC colour coverage, a 5000:1 dynamic dimming ratio, 15,000+ cd/m2 brightness, and a high solar tolerance load. The 0.9MP resolution enables retinal-limited displays in HUD applications.

This DMD uses bottom illumination, allowing for compact and efficient optical engine design in right-hand and left-hand drive vehicles.

For efficient thermal management, the DLP4620S-Q1 is panel-packaged with low thermal resistance to the DMD array. The DLP4620S-Q1 is qualified for automotive applications with a -40°C to 105°C operating DMD array temperature range.

Quality-managed documentation is available for designing ISO2626-compliant functional safety systems up to ASIL-B. In a recent article, Mouser explored how advanced HUDs, with AR-powered overlays and real-time alerts, are quickly becoming essential tools for modern driving.

The DLP4620S-Q1 0.46" automotive DMD is supported by the TI DLP4620SQ1EVM evaluation module, a complete electronic subsystem designed to drive the DLP4620S-Q1 automotive chipset.
