Cypress's New Single-Chip TrueTouch Solution for Tablets Changes the Game in Large Touchscreens
Cypress Semiconductor announced availability of a new, high-performance single-chip TrueTouch™ solution for large multitouch touchscreens up to 11.6 inches. The new CY8CTMA884 family offers 60 sensing I/O channels with support for up to 884 nodes on the screen, more than any other single-chip solution. Additional sensing channels are essential for greater accuracy, linearity, support for smaller sized fingers and the ability to resolve multiple fingers close together.
The “The market for tablets continues to expand rapidly, and touchscreen performance is a critical differentiator for these products,” said Derek Richardson, Sr. Director of Cypress’s Large Touchscreen Business Unit. “Cypress is the first to offer a single-chip device to support this market. This continues our leadership in both small and large form-factor touchscreen solutions, as multiple tier-one customer engagements bear out.”
Cypress offers the industry’s broadest portfolio of capacitive touchscreen solutions including single-touch, multitouch gesture and multitouch all-point offerings. Cypress was the first company to introduce multitouch all-point functionality, which can track 10 or more touches simultaneously. This multitouch all-point solution has been in mass production since 2008. TrueTouch is the industry’s most flexible touchscreen architecture, which allows designers to implement differentiated features and make last-minute design iterations without board changes. In addition, TrueTouch devices offer Cypress’s world-class noise immunity with patented capacitive sensing technology that enables flawless operation in noisy RF and LCD environments.
