Wireless mesh modules cut costs, design complexity
The MGM13P Mighty Gecko wireless mesh modules from Silicon Labs are now being shipped by Mouser Electronics. Based on the Silicon Labs EFR32MG13 Mighty Gecko system-on-chip (SoC), these modules are a pre-certified, multi-protocol solution for wireless networking.
Featuring Silicon Labs' secure and flexible mesh protocol stacks, an integrated chip antenna, and radio frequency (RF) regulatory certifications, the modules can help developers reduce cost, complexity, and time when designing mesh networking applications.
The wireless mesh modules incorporate a low-power wireless SoC with a 32-bit ArmCortex-M4 core with DSP instruction and floating-point unit for efficient signal processing.
The SoC offers 64Kbytes of RAM, 512Kbytes of flash, and up to +10dBm output power (with a +18dBm version available to order from Mouser.com), as well as a wide selection of peripherals.
Integrating the crystals, RF passives, and antenna necessary for a system-level implementation of wireless Internet of Things (IoT) mesh networks, the modules free developers from complex RF/antenna design and testing and allows them to focus on their end applications.
The 12.9mm × 17.8mm × 2.3mm modules consume only 9.9mA in 1Mbps receive mode and 8.5mA at 0dB in transmit mode. The MGM13P modules support SoC or network co-processor architectures, and the +10dBm version of the device meets regulatory requirements for IEEE 802.15.4 standard used in both Thread and Zigbee networks.
The module is supported by Silicon Labs’ MGM13P Mighty Gecko Radio Boards — for use with the Mighty Gecko Starter Kit — and the Simplicity Studio suite of development and debugging tools that helps accelerate IoT product design.
The MGM13P Mighty Gecko wireless mesh modules are ideal for a wide variety of applications, including connected home lighting and security, smart metering, and health and wellness devices.
