Express Logic’s ThreadX RTOS Supports XMC Microcontroller Family From Infineon
Express Logic announced that Express Logic’s popular ThreadX RTOS now supports the XMC microcontrollers of Infineon Technologies. Based on ARMCortex-M0 and M4 cores, the Infineon XMC microcontroller families are dedicated to applications in renewable energy, factory and building automation, transportation, logistics, medical equipment, lighting, and home appliances. Express Logic’s ThreadX with its high performance and small footprint provides fast real-time control to these applications.
The ThreadX, Express Logic’s small-footprint, fast, royalty-free RTOS, serves as a strong complement to the broad appeal of XMC microcontrollers with more than 1.5 billion deployments of ThreadX into electronic products in consumer, medical, and industrial applications worldwide. Available in full source code distribution, ThreadX is configured for use with IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM (EWARM) for XMC-based projects. ThreadX demos for use with the XMC1100, XMC1200, XMC4200, XMC4400, and XMC4500 development boards are available for free download from Express Logic.
ThreadX has been certified by SGS-TÜV-Saar for use in safety-related systems, under IEC 61508 and IEC 62304, up to SIL Level 4, and Class C medical devices. This certification not only proves that ThreadX meets the requirements of IEC 61508 and IEC 62304, but also gives developers a faster path to certification of their products that must comply with these regulations.
“We are thrilled to combine our TÜV-certified ThreadX RTOS with the Infineon XMC families of microcontrollers,” commented William E. Lamie, President of Express Logic, Inc. “ThreadX easily handles the application needs of industrial, medical, energy automation, and others which the XMC targets. This simplifies the developers’ jobs, giving them an easy-to-use, high-performance RTOS that enables them to bring new products to market faster and more successfully than with other RTOS products.”
“Our XMC families combine optimized peripherals with the advantages of the widespread ARM architecture for industrial applications. With Express Logic’s ThreadX RTOS our XMC microcontrollers have access to a popular, proven, robust commercial RTOS and middleware ecosystem,” said Dr. Stephan Zizala, Senior Director, Industrial and Multimarket Microcontrollers at Infineon Technologies AG. “This enables our customers to easily build their XMC-based applications.”
