Starter kits speed time-to-market for IoT devices

Providing various drivers for rich Internet applications using HTML5, Toshiba's BTZ5000-2MA-A1 and RBTZ5000-6MA-A1 starter kits speed the development of web applications using the Toshiba TZ5000 Application Processor Lite (ApP Lite) series. The kits enable users to easily introduce embedded development environments and speed time-to-market for IoT, streaming media and other content-rich consumer devices.

The kits both have processors featuring a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore/ARM NEON CPU with Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and an embedded IEEE802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2x2 MIMO baseband engine for WiFi connectivity. The RBTZ5000-2MA-A1 and RBTZ5000-6MA-A1 also provide drivers for video playback using Wireless LAN and HDMI outputs.

On a Ubuntu Linux platform, the RBTZ5000-2MA-A1 includes a general-use board with expanded I/O for various peripherals, such as cameras or microphones.

Developed for transmission of audio, video and other media for streaming delivery, the RBTZ5000-6MA-A1 is on an Android 4.4 platform and features a stick-type board suitable for streaming media devices. This board incorporates various optional units, enabling improved development efficiency for a broad range of devices targeting the fast-growing IoT market.

Baseband engine compliant with the next-generation high-speed wireless LAN standard IEEE 802.11ac, the TZ5000 series application processors integrate NAND flash memory. High-speed wireless LAN features delivering high-quality movie experiences are combined with NAND flash memory in a single package, enabling user programs and large-volume data to be kept in temporary storage. It is suited for small-form-factor designs with a reduced component requirement and decreased footprint.

The TZ5000 ApP Lite starter kit samples will be shipping from October 2014.
