Cypress Semiconductor Corp. has released an extension to Version 2.0 of its revolutionary PSoC Creator Design Environment for the PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 programmable system-on-chip families. Known as a “Component Pack,” the update includes new peripheral functions that customers can easily drop into existing PSoC devices to realize new capabilities within their designs.
The new Component Pack takes advantage of PSoC’s unique programmability to offer new peripheral functions with a quick and easy update that does not require users to download the entire PSoC Creator program. Each component is fully tested and characterized, speeding time-to-market and assuring high quality end products for customers. Cypress intends to release new Component Packs approximately every eight weeks going forward.

Component Pack 1 adds the following new capabilities to the platform:
• Up to 4 SD Card interfaces and royalty free FAT File System
• Graphics LCD component with royalty free Graphics Library
• Standard 4-Wire Resistive Touch interface
• Enhanced Digital Filter IIR (Biquad) support added to the Digital Filter Block

“While standard MCUs must create new silicon to add or enhance peripherals, the unique programmability of PSoC allows Cypress to deliver new capabilities to our users through Component Packs every 6 weeks enabling unmatched time-to-market,” said Gahan Richardson, Vice President of Cypress’s Platform PSoC Business Unit. “We say ‘MCUs Can’t and PSoC Can’ because standard microcontrollers can’t offer this flexibility and customization that PSoC does. We’re excited to provide regular Component Pack updates to our customers to offer an even greater array of solutions on a continual basis.”
