It has been announced by Imagination Technologies that Valens has selected Imagination’s MIPS multi-threaded CPUs for its new HDBaseT Automotive chipsets. Valens’ HDBaseT Automotive solution provides infrastructure for in-vehicle connectivity, optimising system design and enhancing end-user experience. HDBaseT Automotive brings better efficiency and cost savings in several vehicle applications, such as infotainment and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Valens’ HDBaseT Automotive solution enables up to 6Gbs tunneling of video and data, Ethernet, controls, USB and power, with native networking capabilities, over a single unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable for up to 15m. This combination of high bandwidth, top performance, feature-rich capabilities and low-cost, existing infrastructure makes HDBaseT the definitive solution for in-vehicle connectivity.

In its latest chipset, Valens leverages the multi-threading capability in the MIPS CPU to efficiently implement a solution which separates data plane-driven applications from the control plane, simplifying and streamlining system and software development.

Micha Risling, Senior Vice President for Marketing and Business Development and Head of the Automotive Business Unit at Valens said: “Valens HDBaseT technology is important for the automotive industry, since it dramatically simplifies and reduces costs for in-vehicle connectivity infrastructure. MIPS CPUs provide the efficiency, performance and the hardware multi-threading capability that we need.”

Jim Nicholas, EVP MIPS Processor IP, Imagination says: “MIPS CPUs have a strong presence in automotive, and are found inside the large majority of ADAS solutions in the market today. We are delighted that MIPS CPUs play a key role in Valens’ new HDBaseT chipset as it takes this revolutionary technology into the automotive sector.”

HDBaseT has been deployed in thousands of products worldwide, addressing the audiovisual needs in several sectors, such as audiovisual, consumer electronics, industrial PC and more.

Automotive industry leaders including General Motors, Daimler, Delphi, and Harman have joined the HDBaseT Alliance to promote and advance HDBaseT in the automotive sector. Valens is one of the founders of the HDBaseT Alliance, an organization established to promote and advance HDBaseT. The Alliance counts today more than 170 members.
