IAR Systems today announced its strategy to strengthen the development of its power debugging technology introduced in 2010. The ability to correlate source code with power consumption, which enables power savings, has created significant interest from customers and partners. Based on this there will be several new product additions that span across the technology chain.
New analysis features will be added to IAR Embedded Workbench to help developers better understand how the software impacts system power consumption. Most importantly, power debugging will be made available for more target architectures, the first to be revealed in November.

We have seen tremendous interest for our power debugging technology said Stefan Skarin, CEO IAR Systems. It shows that we are breaking new ground for designing low-power applications. We intend to keep innovating power debugging to provide developers with the best tools to develop low-power software for embedded systems.

Power debugging added a third dimension to software tuning. Before it was introduced by IAR Systems only code size and execution speed were considered. Today's requirements on embedded systems also include power consumption in order to provide better battery lifetime and lower heat dissipation. The power debugging technology innovated by IAR Systems is a unique set of features and tools that integrates directly into the software development process.
