IAR Systems announces full coverage for the RZ/A ARM Cortex-A9 microprocessor units from Renesas. The complete development toolchain IAR Embedded Workbench provides powerful code optimizations and comprehensive debugger features, including innovative Power Debugging technology, in a reliable and easy-to-use integrated development environment with excellent worldwide technical support.
Renesas’ RZ family of embedded MPUs is designed to meet the need for high-performance processing of 400 MHz and higher. The first launch in the family—the RZ/A series—is focused on automotive, consumer and industry applications that demand high-performance human/machine interfaces. Based on the ARM Cortex-A9 core, the RZ family provides one of the largest on-chip RAM, eliminating the need for additional external memory.

IAR Embedded Workbench incorporates the IAR C/C++ Compiler, assembler, linker, librarian, text editor, project manager, and C-SPY Debugger in a user-friendly integrated development environment. In addition to highly optimizing build tools, the toolchain offers extensive debugging and analysis possibilities such as complex code and data breakpoints, runtime stack analysis, call stack visualization, code coverage analysis and integrated monitoring of power consumption. The toolchain is integrated with the ARM RTX real-time operating systems and other leading RTOS and middleware products from partners such as Micrium, Express Logic, and FreeRTOS. IAR Systems also provides a range of integrated in-circuit debugging probes targeted for simplified, seamless and more flexible development workflows.

“We are excited to gain early support by IAR Systems for our new RZ family,” comments Robert Kalman, Marketing Manager of MCU Marketing Division, MCU/SOC & Solution Marketing Unit from the Industrial & Communications Business Group, Renesas Electronics Europe. “The 10MB of on-chip RAM provided by the first products in the series eliminates the need for external DRAM, which gains a major increase in performance while lowering the cost and power consumption. Since benchmarking consistently shows that IAR Embedded Workbench produces among the fastest performing code in the industry, it will help customers maximize the high performance of the RZ/A series and fully benefit from its rich set of peripherals.”

“With the new RZ MPUs, Renesas takes a strong position in fulfilling the needs of customers with high demands on performance,” says Stefan Skarin, CEO, IAR Systems, “Developers can use IAR Systems’ tools to leverage this technology. In addition to supporting all available ARM cores, IAR Embedded Workbench supports all Renesas microcontroller families, allowing customers to move freely between the entire line-up of Renesas microcontrollers while using the same development tools.”

Support for Renesas RZ is available using IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM, from version 6.60.
