The Dataman S6 needs no additional power supply since it draws its supply and communicates via a PC's Hi-speed USB 2.0 port. Over 14,000 programmable devices are already supported, with new devices added monthly. Intelligent pin drivers allow operation down to 1.8V in order to be able to program the full range of advanced low-voltage devices using the easy-to-use software provided (compatible with the latest operating systems including Windows 8).

Multiprogramming support allows one PC to control up to eight units, so multiple units can be used as a gang programmer. The Dataman S6 even performs device insertion and contact tests before programming each device. These capabilities, supported by overcurrent protection and signature-byte check help prevent chip damage due to operator error. A self-test capability allows diagnostics included in the software to thoroughly check the health of the programmer.

A range of socket converters are available to handle devices in a wide range of packages, including: PLCC, JLCC, SDIP, SOP, VSOP, SSOP, TSOP, TSSOP, QFP, PQFP, TQFP, VQFP, BGA, uBGA, SON, WSON, QFN (MLF), etc. Forty-eight powerful TTL FPGA-based totally reconfigurable pin-drivers provide H/L/pull-up/pull-down and read capability for each pin of the socket. The advanced pin-driver design incorporates high-quality, high-speed circuitry to deliver signals without overshoot or ground bounce for all supported devices.
