Computer-on-Module runs XP embedded

The CM-iGLX from Anders Electronics is an updated and performance-enhanced member of Anders Electronics’ compact and lightweight x86 Computer-on-Module (CoM), no larger than a credit card. Nearly four times smaller than competing nano-ITX boards, the CM-iGLX offers battery-powered operation yet can smoothly run Windows XP embedded as well as Linux and Windows CE.
It offers strong performance when running software compiled for PCs, reducing the requirement to re-write, recompile and optimise, as is often needed with RISC-based embedded computing modules, and can take advantage of the huge library of software available for the x86 architecture.

Powered by a 32-bit AMD Geode LX 800 CPU running at 500MHz, coupled to fast, low-power DDR memory, the CM-iGLX measures just 69 x 58mm and weighs only 37g.

This small size and a maximum power consumption of just 5W make it ideal for a wide range of embedded applications. Extended temperature versions also provide compact, low-power embedded options for industrial and harsh environment designs.

The CoM integrates on-board all of the hardware required in a fully-featured PC, including 256Mbyte RAM, a 512Mbyte Flash disk and PCI bus. Integration into a wider embedded system is facilitated by the provision of a 100Mbit Ethernet port, serial ports, general-purpose I/O (GPIO) lines, a hard disk interface and optional LPC and AC97 buses.

Three USB 2.0 ports further expand the external communications options, as well as providing keyboard and mouse operation for the user interface. This capability is supported by an enhanced graphics controller with a video input port, and is capable of driving displays up to 1920x1440 resolution.

A 16-bit stereo audio system accommodates speakers, headphones, line out and microphone input. A touchscreen interface is also available.

The module is designed for attachment to a custom baseboard with connectors and any proprietary electronics needed, via the standardised CAMI interface. This offers interchangeability with other CoMs, allowing upgrades, changes in customer requirements and new applications to be addressed quickly and economically, as well as extended product lifetime.

Ready-to-run packages and support for Windows XP embedded, Linux and Windows CE 5.0 operating systems are available, designed to run from the high-speed onboard Flash disk with wear-levelling support.
