Cadence Design Systems opened its annual CDNLive! EMEA user conference in Munich with a call to action for the semiconductor and EDA industries to join in embracing the EDA360 vision. Now in its fifth year, CDNLive! brings together Cadence® technology users, developers and industry experts to discuss design challenges and cost-effective solutions. More than 550 delegates from over 130 companies and universities attended the conference.
During the event, Cadence highlighted the EDA360 vision, which aims to close the profitability and productivity gaps in the electronics industry through integration-ready IP creation, integration and optimization. Supporting three fundamental capabilities—System Realization, System-on-Chip (SoC) Realization and Silicon Realization—EDA360 encourages a new era of applications-driven design.

With the launch of its new Open Integration Platform, Cadence presented an innovative approach to SoC Realization. The Open Integration Platform significantly reduces SoC development costs, improves quality and accelerates production schedules. It is a comprehensive suite of products that enable developers to create, evaluate, acquire and integrate IP into a SoC — optimizing from the physical layer through the controller and up to the bare metal software.

Attendees of this year’s event were welcomed by a keynote from John Bruggeman, chief marketing officer of Cadence. Bruggeman highlighted the significant transformation taking place in the semiconductor industry that requires increased profitability and new methodologies for system integration.

Guest speaker Subramani Kengeri, vice president of Design Solutions at GLOBALFOUNDRIES, emphasized in his keynote the need for extended technical collaboration in the semiconductor industry to close the profitability gap. He also stressed the importance of developing a trusted ecosystem to address the issue of growing design complexity.

EDA luminary Dr. Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli, professor at UC Berkeley and co-founder of Cadence, delivered a presentation that highlighted the connected world and its challenges. He emphasized how growth in the wireless sector—more than seven trillion wireless devices serving seven billion people by 2017—would add to design complexity and challenge the semiconductor industry. He described how integrated platforms will assist designers in overcoming many of the issues posed by the connected world.

Wolfgang Stronski, marketing director of Cadence EMEA, commented, “CDNLive! EMEA continues to be a must-attend event for our users. The networking opportunity is a very important factor for our customers and for us. Customers recognize the event as a forum to learn how their peers approach technology issues and to get new ideas for their work. We have received a lot of positive feedback and are very pleased with the outcome of the event.”

This year, conference attendees had the chance to attend a rich program of technical presentations. The academic sessions offered the opportunity to gain insight into recent projects at universities that are tackling today’s most burning design issues.
