Altium releases new TASKING C compilers for Power Architecture and RH850, targeting ISO 26262 application development

Altium has released two completely new TASKING C compiler solutions for automotive application development, delivering support for the RH850 microcontrollers from Renesas and the Power Architecture based microcontrollers from the Freescale Qorivva/5xxx and STMicroelectronics SPC56 series. These new development solutions extend the range of popular TASKING toolsets for automotive microcontrollers like XC2000, ARM, ST10 and TriCore.
Both new compilers have been developed from the ground up, using Altium’s highly efficient Viper “VX” compiler technology, not limited by legacy compiler implementations. This new generation of compilers is the perfect clean start towards ISO 26262:2011 certified development tools and application development.



Viper is a modern compiler technology fully developed and owned by Altium and as such does not depend on components from third parties or the public domain. The use of Viper technology guarantees compatibility to other popular TASKING toolsets which have established a solid “proven in use” reputation with highly efficient and robust code for automotive applications like power train, body control, chassis control and safety critical applications.



Internal and external automotive application benchmarks with the new C compilers have shown best-in-class code efficiency achievements, says Harm-André Verhoef, Product Manager for TASKING at Altium. The new compilers excel in build-time efficiency, delivering significant product development time and cost savings to developers.



The TASKING Viper technology features MISRA C and CERT C code checking, profiling through code instrumentation and run-time error checking capabilities. Using Viper technology programmers can now develop extremely robust code in significantly less time than previously possible.



The new compilers are available immediately for evaluation and use by automotive OEMs and Tier 1s. ISO 26262 compliance and certification will be completed in 2013. Addressing the needs of broad and emerging markets, an IDE and debugger will be added to the compilers, delivering a cost-effective complete solution to developers.



All licensed users will be updated with an ISO 26262 certified compiler and IDE/debugger on availability. Altium’s regular annual service agreements, legacy service models and long-term service models are available to back up the new products with technical support and Altium's commitment to support new family members of the respective microcontrollers.
