Piezoelectric composites deliver improved acoustics over traditional materials

Enabling quicker response in medical components, Morgan Advanced Material's piezoelectric composites deliver improved acoustic performance over traditional transducer materials. They also feature higher transmit and receive efficiency, and can be produced in custom sizes, shapes, and materials.

The piezo composites reduce the cross-coupling that typically occurs between different modes in the ceramic of conventional transducers, which enables medical components to respond in a more precise and predictable manner. Providing lower acoustic impedance and improved transducer bandwidth, components manufactured by Morgan also reduce spurious activity which results in a higher transmit and receive efficiency.

The piezoelectric composites are available in both 1-3 and 2-2 orientations, in sizes up to 3-inch square and frequencies from 100 kHz to 12 MHz.  The piezoelectric volume fractions can also be tailored for any application. Increasing design flexibility, the composities conform to curved, complex geometric surfaces in shapes often not achievable with conventional piezoceramic materials. Further flexibility is also offered with the manufacture of components available in standard or custom materials, including Navy types I, II, and VI.

The piezo composites are suitable for where high performance is critical, including medical imaging, doppler flow, and military and commercial sonar.
