ULEMCo to lead £8 million hydrogen fuel cell project
ULEMCo and partners have been awarded £3.9 million by government, matched by industry to a total £7.9 million, for a major project with Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) to develop solutions for hydrogen powered vehicles.
ULEMCo procures first fuel cell module
ULEMCo has started development with the FC fuel cell module from the Toyota Motor Corporation, as it develops a range of optimised hydrogen fuel cell solutions for electric vehicle applications. As the first step, ULEMCo is obtaining a fuel cell for evaluation under the feasibility project HySPERT (Hydrogen Special Purpose Electric vehicle platform for Refuse collection and fire Trucks).
'First' hydrogen powered ambulance prototype at COP26
Visitors to COP26 in Glasgow are viewing the world’s first hydrogen fuelled ambulance, created by ULEMCo, the UK hydrogen fuel pioneer, and their partners.
Hydrogen fuelled fire engines
ULEMCo has been awarded government funding with its partners to produce an optimised design for specialised hydrogen fuelled vehicles. Working with Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) and its Fire and Rescue Service, ULEMCo will design the fuel cell electric powertrain configuration for zero emission fire appliances.
Collaboration to produce new hydrogen vehicle
ULEMCo has worked with partners JCB and Bucher Municipal on an innovative route to replacing carbon based fuel with hydrogen vehicles. It has produced a new road sweeper for Aberdeen City Council that demonstrates the ability to use hydrogen fuel in both the primary engine and the auxiliary engine powering the ancillary equipment.
Hydrogen dual-fuel vehicle makes cleaner deliveries for Ocado
The company pioneering the adoption of ultra-low emission hydrogen fuelled commercial vehicles in the UK, ULEMCo has delivered the first hydrogen dual-fuel van to online supermarket Ocado. The vehicle is part of a wider programme to evaluate the use of ULEMCo’s cleaner vehicles for the Ocado fleet.
Keep on trucking with zero carbon hydrogen fuel
Hydrogen fuel pioneer, ULEMCo will hit the roads later this year with a converted VOLVO FH16 vehicle that uses a combustion engine powered entirely by zero carbon hydrogen fuel.
Zero emission combustion engine truck takes to the roads this year
Later in the year, a truck with a combustion engine powered entirely from zero carbon hydrogen fuel will take to the roads. Developed by hydrogen fuel pioneer ULEMCo, the converted VOLVO FH16 vehicle will use what is believed to be the first ‘zero emission’ combustion engine anywhere in the world. The hydrogen combustion truck, with Mega Low Emissions (MLE), is designed to provide a demonstration of how hydrogen fu...
Hydrogen dual fuel road sweeper introduced to Aberdeen City Council
ULEMCo has collaborated with Aberdeen City Council (ACC) to deliver the world’s first hydrogen dual fuel road sweeper. The vehicles will use hydrogen fuel for around a third of the energy used to drive and operate the vehicles, making valuable reductions in CO2 emissions.
First hydrogen fuel conversion for UK company completed
Specialists in ultra-low emission hydrogen-fuelled commercial vehicles in the UK, ULEMCo has just completed the first hydrogen fuel conversion for a UK commercial waste company. Oxfordshire-based Grundon Waste Management selected ULEMCo to carry out the hydrogen diesel dual-fuel conversion for one of its waste disposal trucks.
Collaboration for economical production of hydrogen fuel
In order to accelerate the commercialisation of hydrogen fuelled vehicles, both in Spain and the UK, ULEMCo has announced a collaboration with Spanish company H2B2. The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding that sees the firms enter a non-exclusive partnership to maximise the opportunity for the use and supply of hydrogen economically through scaled production.
Hydrogen fuel project promises ultra-clean air in China
A UK company has been selected to lead a collaborative project that promises to result in significant carbon reduction and ultra-low air quality emissions for thousands of vehicles in China within the next 10 years. Liverpool based ULEMCo has received grant funding via Innovate UK from the cross Government Newton Fund. The Fund uses science and innovation partnerships to promote the economic development and welfare of countries overseas.
Hydrogen dual-fuel bin lorries hit the roads in the UK
A company championing the use of ultra-low emission hydrogen fuelled vehicles, has delivered the world’s first hydrogen dual-fuel bin lorries to Fife Council in Scotland. The lorries are converted to run on dual hydrogen/diesel fuels, and will deliver reduced carbon emissions as well as improving air quality for the local community. The new bin lorries are planned for use in densely populated urban areas, where improving air quality is a hu...
Hydrogen powered transits get 100% discount on congestion charge
ULEMCo, the company championing the use of ultra-low emission hydrogen fuelled vehicles has been advised by Transport for London (TfL) that their conversion of the Ford TRANSIT to duel fuel is eligible for a 100% Congestion Charge discount. This significant development opens the way for fleet operators to deploy this ultra-low emission vehicle in London with a financial incentive to support their socially responsible choice.
First ever dual-fuel hydrogen-diesel conversion of refuse trucks
ULEMCo is on target to complete the dual fuel conversions of the Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCVs) and associated vans, under the recently announced Levenmouth Community Energy Project. The RCV conversions, which are believed to be the first of their type in the world, will be used by Fife Council as key partners in the project, to perform normal refuse collection duties, and extend the practical use of hydrogen as an alternative transport fuel.&...
Milestone hit with hydrogen fuelled vans
ULEMCo has reached an important milestone for use of hydrogen fuel in its fleet of test vehicles. Sixteen standard Ford Transits, adapted to run on dual hydrogen/diesel, have clocked up over 20,000 miles (over 32,000km) using hydrogen fuel. The vehicles achieved ultra-low emissions of 59g CO2 per kilometre, compared with 234g/km for the standard vehicles, equivalent to a saving of almost 6t of CO2 emissions for the UK to date. The figures are bas...
Low-emission hydrogen-fuelled vehicles are realised
Diesel-to-hydrofuel converted vehicles have been verified as achieving the definitions of ultra-low status by the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA). Ford Transit vans retrofitted with ULEMCo’s hydrogen gas system achieved 59g/km CO2 under test, representing a 70% reduction on the unconverted equivalent vehicle. Tailpipe emissions also showed a 40% reduction in harmful NOx.
