First single supplier of LTE Cat 1 module for the IoT
Developed from the ground up by u-blox, the UBX-R3 platform affirms u-blox’s commitment to delivering the industry’s best IoT cellular connectivity. The platform is at the heart of the first Cat 1 LTE module, LARA‑R3, marking the first milestone in a long-term strategy to establish leading LTE modem technology designed specifically for both the IoT and for M2M communication. u-blox unveiled the UBX-R3, its proprietary LTE modem...
4G modules donated to healthcare initiative
500 4G modules have been donated to Norwegian company, No Isolation, by u-blox, as a part of an on-going Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. No Isolation is a connected healthcare start-up, pioneering an avatar for children with long term illnesses who have to stay in hospital or at home over an extended period of time.
In‑vehicle LTE – use cases and opportunities for the connected and autonomous car
In January 1886, Karl Benz filed patent 37435 at the German Patent Office, which was subsequently granted in November. It was for a 954cc vehicle, called the Motorwagen, that was able to deliver less than one horsepower and operated with just one front wheel.

Significant roadmap investment in RPMA technology
Ingenu and u‑blox have announced a strategic partnership that will enable the next generation of Ingenu’s patented RPMA (Random Phase Multiple Access) technology to serve global opportunities in the IoT market. The two companies have agreed that u-blox will develop and manufacture products supporting RPMA technology. RPMA is a low-power wide-area channel access method used exclusively for Machine-To-Machine (M2M) communication on the...
Cat M1 LTE module allows more devices to connect to the IoT
Facilitating a larger number of devices to connect to the IoT, u-blox has announced plans to launch modules supporting Cat M1 (Category M1) LTE networks. The first SARA-R4 module developed by u-blox will be available in Q4 2016 targeting mobile network operators in the US market. With the recently launched SARA-N2, the world’s first cellular NB-IoT module, the LTE Cat M1 complements u-blox’s extensive product offering for the IoT.
Autonomous vehicle’s Lego blocks take shape
As technology races ahead, government is doing its best to remove obstacles for fully autonomous vehicles to hit the road, soon: 25,000 lives depend on it.
u-blox to exhibit VoLTE, NB-IoT and IoT gateway tech at CTIA
At the CTIA conference and exhibition, 7th to 9th September 2016 in Las Vegas, u-blox will demonstrate VoLTE (Voice over LTE infrastructure) capability using its TOBY-R202 LTE Cat 1 module, as well as NB-IoT (Narrowband IoT) technology and IoT sensor-to-gateway-to-cloud capabilities.
IP versus CoAP for IoT communications
Connectivity technologies have advanced rapidly and led to the beginnings of the IoT, with billions of smart, connected sensors, actuators and systems all rigged up to enable the real‑time data processing and analytics that let you to take better control of what’s around you.
GNSS receiver is optimised for covert asset tracking
Optimised to provide the highest acquisition and tracking sensitivity, u-blox has announced a TCXO-based GNSS receiver. Supplied in the miniature and cost-effective EVA 7x7mm form-factor package, the EVA-M8Q is suited for use with small antennas either in covert applications such as asset tracking and stolen vehicle recovery, or in portable devices.
Narrowband‑IoT: Reaching the devices other technologies cannot
The Internet of Things (IoT) promises us a more connected, smarter world, but also presents a new set of technical challenges including which technology to pick for which use case. By Simon Glassman, Senior Principal, Strategic Partnerships, u-blox.
LTE – turning the tables on cable
In less than a decade LTE has transformed mobile communications from a voice‑centric dial‑up service into the high‑speed mobile broadband experience which we now take for granted. To migrate the internet from our homes to the streets and ultimately into our hands, vast infrastructure overhauls were necessary with unprecedented levels of investment to achieve the low‑latency, real‑time and high bandwidth service we now so heavily rely up...
IoT and the four reasons why licensed spectrum technologies have been worth the wait
Several wireless technologies have emerged to enable the huge array of IoT applications that are set to explode. And while there are many differences between them, they can roughly be separated into two discrete groups: proprietary solutions operating in an unlicensed spectrum and those operating in a licensed spectrum. Here we take a quick look at these and examine some of the key reasons why it is worth waiting for licensed spectrum standards.
Personal security wearable relies on u-blox, not a phone
Whereable Technologies uses u-blox technology for the first live-monitored personal safety wearable that doesn’t require connection to a cell phone. RiskBand, which launches in fall, 2016, is a small, bracelet-like device that allows wearers to summon help and stream audio and photos with just one discreet push of a button.
The Internet of Things that really matter
Early examples of the “potential” of the Internet of Things (IoT) patently failed to inspire enthusiasm worthy of (what has been rightly termed) the fourth industrial revolution. Prefixing everyday items with “smart” quickly became ubiquitous, with “smart” toasters and kettles negating the apparently now unacceptable effort of journeying far into one’s kitchen and manually flicking a switch.
Positioning & connectivity modules are automotive qualified
Expanding its product offering, u-blox has added automotive qualified product variants to its range of positioning and cellular wireless connectivity modules. Manufactured according to the ISO/TS 16949 automotive supply chain quality management standard, the modules are thoroughly tested with an extended qualification process aimed at achieving the lowest level of failure rates.
How V2X can make our cars smarter and our streets safer
Imagine a world where you never have to sit in traffic, because your car automatically finds the best path to get to your destination. Where your car diagnoses itself when something goes wrong and points you to the nearest qualified service station. Where your car gets better gas mileage because you barely spend any time waiting at red lights. Where cars actively communicate between themselves to prevent collisions before they can happen.
New demonstration for aerospace and defence industry
Event vehicles at the Farnborough International Airshow will be fitted with connected devices in field trial of real-time outdoor asset management solution.
Cardholder-sized SOS device uses u-blox technology
MCM Electronics has announced the launch of a new personal safety device, developed in collaboration with u-blox. LONEworkr, a people tracker and SOS device in a card holder format, is designed to track lone and isolated workers in order to locate them in the event of an emergency.
