EU Commission welcomed on the accelerated introduction of C-ITS
C-ITS or co-operative Intelligent Transport Systems have become an important strategic pillar of the EU's modernisation strategy for its transport sector to achieve the goal of zero fatalities by 2050. At the heart of C-ITS is V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) communication, which enables vehicles and transport infrastructure to talk to each other via high-reliability and low-latency wireless communication technologies.
Simplification of smart metering through Bluetooth
Smart metres play a key role in the digital transformation of cities. Without smart metres, it is difficult to envisage many of the smart utilities and services that will ensure the attractiveness of tomorrow's cities: improved resource efficiency, increased capacity for renewable energy sources, better management of public utilities, and higher overall urban resilience.
Base station order demands future-proof timing performance
u-blox has announced that it is providing critical timing technology to strengthen the Chinese MNO (mobile network operator) China Unicom’s 4G network and provide a platform for the rollout of 5G connectivity. China Unicom announced in January that it wanted to buy 416,000 4G base stations, to extend its network’s reach, and strengthen its voice, data and IoT support. Several telecom network equipment suppliers were chosen to fulfil t...
Wireless connectivity - made easy with u-connect
Even for seasoned programmers, it can be a showdown to configure short-range wireless modules to behave exactly as they should. Typically, it is a complex, time-consuming and error-prone programming of embedded systems. If that's your specialty, or if your device needs the full flexibility of programming an application from scratch and single-handedly, our open CPU wireless module variants will meet the needs of experts like you.
Wireless module enables the SolidSense N6 Edge Gateway
Provider of positioning and wireless communication technologies, u-blox, along with SolidRun, embedded systems and networking solutions, have announced their collaboration on a new range of connectivity products for the IoT, including turnkey IoT Edge Gateways for indoor and outdoor use, Single-Board Computers (SBCs) and System-on-Modules (SOMs).
Wireless mesh solution for building automation
Global provider of positioning and wireless communication technologies, u-blox, along with LumenRadio, have combined their technologies to enable a new building automation solution. Developed by Produal, the new wireless Proxima room solution leverages wireless mesh technology and NINA-B1 Bluetooth low energy module to increase flexibility and ease of installation.
Emerging technologies promise new generation of applications
High precision positioning, low power wide area (LPWA), short range mesh networks, and edge intelligence promise to extend the range of applications for the IoT in the food sector and beyond. If data is a primary driver of industrial digitalisation, the technologies used to gather, transmit, store, and process it are its key enablers. This is also true in the food sector.
Ten years of power for NB IoT connectivity with a single battery
NB‑IoT, or Narrowband IoT, has long been heralded as the enabler of very low power IoT applications, promising a decade of connectivity on a single battery. Optimised for the infrequent transmission of small amounts of data, the technology caters to wide‑ranging use cases that include smart utility metering, smart cities, logistics and asset tracking, and agricultural and environmental applications. And now, networks around the world are...
The list of SparkFun's u-blox shields just got longer
Imagine you had a pet turtle. Let’s call him u‑lysis. u‑lysis the turtle lives in his pen in your backyard and spends most of his time hiding behind rocks, which is why you can never find him when you are looking for him. Surveillance cameras won’t do the trick, unless you set one up in each corner of his pen. What you need is a tracker. You could buy one online. But wouldn’t it be a lot more fun to make one yourself?
Connectivity software with high performance script solution
Global provider of positioning and wireless communication technologies, u-blox, has announced that it is expanding its connectivity software offering. In addition to the established u connectXpress, previously known as u-blox connectivity software, the offering now also includes u-connectScript.
Location tracking smartwatch powered by sunlight
u-blox and TransSiP are announcing the PowerWatch 2, according to the companies it will be the world’s first GPS smartwatch that you never need to recharge. The smartwatch features the ultra-small, ultra-low power u‑blox ZOE-M8B GNSS receiver to track position, in addition to calories burned, activity level, and sleep, making it a suitable companion for runners, hikers, and swimmers.
Integrated PCB antenna option added to BLE modules
u-blox has announced that its NINA-B3 series of stand-alone Bluetooth 5 low energy modules now includes the NINA-B306/316 modules with integrated PCB antenna. The trapezoidal printed antenna, technology licensed from Proant AB, enable performance transmission and reception of data in a small form factor.
Two eyes see more than one and this applies to V2X receivers
Vehicle‑to‑everything, or V2X, is a groundbreaking technology with the potential to dramatically improve road safety, saving thousands of lives each year. Developed and tested over decades, it uses wireless communication to offer vehicles 360° awareness of what’s going on around them, beyond line of sight, and with up to one kilometre range.
In the IoT small things can make a big difference
The Internet of Things (IoT) is more than the sum of its parts, even if those parts are expected to number in the tens of billions within this decade alone. The size, shape and scope of those things will vary massively, but as a concept the IoT is often presented as smart sensors enabling smarter infrastructure. And in some cases, that is exactly right.
The time u-blox took a trip to space
For a few seconds, everyone at the SwissTech Convention Center (EPFL) held their breath as the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket of Spaceflight SSO‑A: SmallSat Express mission took off towards low Earth orbit from Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC‑4E) at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, USA. The rocket’s payload included a CubeSat nanosatellite designed by Astrocast, a prototype to test the 64‑satellite constellation ...
From 2D to 3D: the way forward for cities under pressure
What might tomorrow’s cities look like? To make predictions of the future is to move on treacherous terrain. That’s OK, let’s be bold. The picture above shows a city’s lower airspace is a regulatory greenfield waiting to be conquered by autonomous services, to the benefit of its residents.
The promise of the networked food industry
The food industry is buzzing with digitalisation in every sense, from the farm to the front page of the online store. With this in mind, u-blox invited Haiao Ding, Associate Chief Editor of the Digital Business Times, to talk with Perry Zhang, Principal, Strategic Partnerships at u-blox, about the impact of digitisation on the food supply chain.
