Tektronix has unveiled a fully integrated 40Gb/s Programmable Pattern Generator (PPG). This 40Gb/s PPG, along with the previously announced 40Gb/s Programmable Error Detector now comprise a complete 40 Gb/s BERT solution.  With 200 fs Random Jitter (RJ) and 8 ps risetime performance, the Tektronix PPG4001 delivers the performance and signal quality critical for serial data testing at 40Gb/s.

Tektronix has strengthened its portfolio in the growing market for test equipment to support 100G/400G optical data communications research and development with the acquisition of Picosecond Pulse Labs for an undisclosed sum.  Privately-held Picosecond Pulse Labs, are based in Boulder, Colorado.

Tektronix is expanding its family of precision power analysers with the introduction of the PA1000 single-phase power analyser. The company is positioning itself to take advantage of the burgeoning power inverter market which Curt Willener, general manager, Power Analyser Product Line, Tektronix suggested could be worth £70bn by 2020. Tektronix says its real-time spectrum analysers (RTSAs) now offer up to 165MHz acquisition bandwidth to support demanding applications such as high-margin, high accuracy WLAN 802.11ac characterisation and troubleshooting. Also upgraded are the real-time performance and signal detection improvements of its RSA5000 and SPECMON series of RTSAs.

Debugging a device with integrated RF is a challenge. It is one that Tektronix strove to make easier with the introduction in August 2011 of its MDO4000 series of mixed domain oscilloscopes. The company has now added to its armoury with the launch of the MDO4000B mixed domain oscilloscopes.
