MWC 2016: EVS testing targets mobile device R&D
The first test & measurement solution that supports EVS, a full HD voice codec recently developed for Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services by 3GPP was unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona by Spirent Communications. The EVS codec offers improved audio quality performance at reduced bit rates, with additional features to improve the user experience while reducing costs for wireless service providers.
Channel emulator addresses 5G challenges
The Spirent Vertex Channel Emulator, which delivers an unprecedented level of scalability and modularity for wireless RF testing will make its debut at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (Feb 22-25). Vertex units can scale in the field from two to 32 channels to address a wide range of uses from basic RF device tests to complex MIMO beamforming base station antenna tests.
Spirent, NSL unite to ward off GNSS threats
A strategic partnership has been forged by Spirent Communications and Nottingham Scientific Limited (NSL) to enable the detection, characterisation and regeneration of threats to Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver systems. The combination of NSL’s acknowledged expertise in the research of GNSS vulnerabilities with Spirent’s leadership in GNSS simulation and test development enables the provision of a range of planned r...
Test system targets connected car ecosystem
An automotive record and playback test system has been unveiled by Spirent Communications. The company says that it will help drive innovations and improvements in the rapidly evolving vehicle navigation and connected car ecosystem. The test system enables automotive system developers to record many different real-world signals and then replay them repeatedly in development labs, to shorten the time taken to validate new hardware or software.
Predictive technology comes up trumps
Automated tests that monitor signal attenuation in fibre and warn of failure before it happens promise savings in time, cost and reputation across the telecoms industry, says Daryl Cornelius, Director of ITO, Spirent Communications.
Accreditation laboratory installs LTE test solution
A leading accredited laboratory for wireless testing and certification has enhanced the testing capabilities it offers its customers by using the Spirent 8100 LTE solution with support for hVoLTE, Voice over IP (VoIP), Video Telephony, and Carrier Aggregation. SGS will use the test solution to assess the audio, video, signalling, and data throughput performance of mobile devices to ensure they meet the complex carrier requirements of next-generat...
Smart grids must also be streetwise
The use of sophisticated information technology to control nation-wide utility delivery increases efficiency but introduces new hazards. There are lessons to be learnt from those with long experience of testing such critical infrastructures, according to David Hill, Vice President, EMEA, Spirent Communications.
MWC 2015: Mobile device test times slashed
Spirent Communications has expanded its 8100 Carrier Acceptance and Conformance test portfolio with the addition of two new solutions: the 8100 X series and 8100 Q series. The new solutions address a critical need in the industry: a cost-effective answer to the growing capacity crunch in device performance testing as a result of the surge in new technologies and services.
Bringing the real world into the lab
David Hill, VP EMEA, Spirent, explains how new approaches to end-to-end testing for wireless communications can save time and money by modelling realistic test conditions even in the development stages.
Test Framework elevates wireless testing
Spirent Communications describes its Elevate Test Framework as a revolutionary advance in testing wireless and machine-to-machine (M2M) devices and services. The Framework is a network of resources designed to address the increasingly complex testing challenges and scale demands of the wireless industry.
VoLTE challenge met with robust methodology
Spirent Communicationshas unveiled its VoLTE Launch Readiness solution. The solution addresses a critical challenge operators launching VoLTE voice and video calling services face - ensuring new VoLTE devices and services will deliver an experience as good or better than legacy and over-the-top (OTT) services.
Signals Research Group’s New LTE Chipset Benchmark Study Focuses on CAT 4 Data Throughput
Spirent Communications has collaborated with Signals Research Group (SRG) to benchmark data throughput performance of six LTE Category 4 (Cat 4) capable chipsets from Ericsson, HiSilicon, Intel, MediaTek, Qualcomm, and Samsung. The study included a mix of commercial and pre-commercial chipsets and is a part of an overall LTE chipset performance analysis series which will include LTE TDD and Carrier Aggregation in future reports.
Bench-top system measures mobile sound quality
Spirent Communications has launched the bench-top AVS (Acoustic Verification System) to evaluate mobile device acoustic speech quality. Operators can now incorporate sophisticated acoustic speech analyses into their forward and reverse device logistics processes, driving substantial cost savings and improved user experience.
SDN/NVF validation test bed accelerates time to market
Spirent Communications' Spirent Velocity is a virtual lab environment that helps validate Software Defined Networks(SDN)/Network Function Virtualisation (NVF) technologies and deployments. It helps accelerate time to market and reduce expenses associated with traditional virtual and physical test beds.
100G test module supports CFP4 transceiver modules
Spirent Communications has launched the4-port Spirent dX2 100G test module with support for CFP4 transceiver interfaces. CFP4 refers to the form factor of a new generation of optical transceivers, defined under the CFP Multi-Source Agreement (MSA), supporting the 40Gbit/s and 100Gbit/s interfaces needed to address the ultra-high bandwidth requirements of today and tomorrow’s communication networks.
Spirent adds A-GNSS to hybrid location system
Spirent Communications can now offer carrier-approved Assisted Global Navigation Satellite System (A-GNSS) Record and Playback capabilities on its Hybrid Location Technology Solution (HLTS).
Connected Vehicles Make Serious Responsibilities
Connectivity is this year’s must-have automotive add-on – but don’t compare it to alloy wheels or LED lights, because it shifts the whole industry into relatively unfamiliar territory, demanding a whole new testing strategy, according to John Pottle, Marketing Director at Spirent Positioning Technology.
