The Science Museum opens a significant new gallery dedicated to world-changing engineering innovations and the diverse and fascinating range of people behind them.

For decades, autonomous vehicles have been heralded as a new technology that could change the way we live our lives. ‘Driverless: Who is in control?’ is opening on 12th June 2019 at the Science Museum will explore how close we are to living in a world driven by thinking machines.

Curator Ben Russell's dream is to rebuild the UK’s first robot, Eric. Built in 1928, Eric holds a unique place in our history. He was everything we now imagine a robot to be – a talking, moving mechanical person. But then Eric disappeared and no-one knows what happened to him.

Children will be given the chance to meet the original Robot Scientist in a series of demonstrations at London’s Science Museum. Dr Larisa Soldatova, from Brunel University London’s computer science department, will join academic colleagues to demonstrate just what ADAM, a machine who thinks and does experiments like a human scientist, is capable of.
