High efficiency power IC suits car audio applications

ROHM has announced a system power supply IC for the car audio market that, according to the company, features the lowest power consumption in the industry. The BD49101AEFS-M leverages ROHM’s expertise in car audio power system design to achieve an optimised system based on a high-efficiency DC/DC converter, reducing power consumption by 65%, from 13.3W with ROHM’s conventional products to an industry-leading 4.66W.

Power management ICs enable lower power systems

Power transmission technology for PCs and TVs

A new class of power receiver controller ICs compatible with the latest USB Power Delivery (Rev2.0) and Type-C (Rev1.1) standards and has recently been announced by ROHM. The BM92TxxMWV series supports not only conventional USB power supply up to 7.5W, but the newly expanded power range as well up to 100W (20V/5A) for USB Type-C connected devices.

Increased energy saving in industrial applications

ROHM’s recently announced AC/DC converter control IC, designed specifically for SiC MOSFETs in industrial equipment such as servers and other large power applications, was showcased at SPS IPC Drives. The BD7682FJ-LB allows the easy implementation of SiC-MOSFETs to an AC/DC converter which has proved challenging when using discrete configurations due to the large number of components required.

Power modules for high performance switching

The SPS IPC Drives show in Nuremberg saw ROHM launch its IPM (Intelligent Power Module) family optimised for high speed and power efficient operation in motor driving. The 600V modules integrate a range of components such as gate drivers, bootstrap diodes, IGBTs or ROHM’s proprietary Low Ron SuperJunction Power MOSFETs (PrestoMOS) as well as a fly wheel diode (FWD) within a single compact package.

Reference design is the world’s first Qi-Certified

ROHM has received certification from WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) for its reference design using the BD57020MWV wireless power transmitter IC. This is the first device in the world certified to be compliant with the Qi medium power specification.

CXPI transceiver IC enables multiplexing between ECUs

ROHM has announced a transceiver IC compatible with the low-speed, low-cost CXPI communication protocol for use in body control applications, including steering switch, AC and instrument panel systems. The BD41000FJ-C enables multiplexing between ECUs, contributing to decreased vehicle weight and improved fuel efficiency by reducing the number and size of wiring harnesses.

Trench SiC MOSFET cuts on-state resistance in half

ROHM has announced the development and mass production of a SiC MOSFET that adopts the world's first trench structure. Compared to existing planar-type SiC MOSFETs, RDS(ON) is reduced by 50% in the same chip size, making it possible to significantly decrease power loss in a variety of equipment, from industrial inverters and power supplies to power conditioners for solar power systems.
