Peregrine Semiconductor becomes pSemi
Peregrine Semiconductor has changed its corporate name to pSemi Corporation.. The name change coincides with two major milestones—the company’s 30-year anniversary of RF-CMOS innovation and the shipment of its four billionth chip. pSemi will serve as Murata’s semiconductor arm and is tasked with growing rapidly to support its expanding product portfolio and the hiring of engineers and professionals globally.
Arctic Sand acquired by semiconductor company Peregrine
Peregrine, a Murata company and the founder of RF SOI (silicon on insulator), has announced the acquisition of Arctic Sand Technologies. An MIT spin-off, Arctic Sand designs and manufactures low-power semiconductors for use in DC/DC power conversion applications. This strategic acquisition will accelerate Murata’s vision to revolutionise power electronics with the smallest, most efficient power solutions.
Peregrine Semiconductor taps Stefan Wolff as new CEO
Peregrine Semiconductor has shaken up its top management team as it seeks to advance its semiconductor capability. Jim Cable is stepping aside as Chief Executive Officer and the company has tapped Stefan Wolff (pictured) from Intel to take over the role. Cable will be moving into the role of Peregrine Chairman and Chief Technology Officer and will serve as the Global R&D Director for Peregrine’s parent company, Murata.
RF SOI devices move to UltraCMOS 12 300mm platform
Peregrine Semiconductor is now delivering products manufactured using its UltraCMOS 12 technology platform. This next generation RF SOI platform boasts the industry’s lowest RONCOFF performance level of 80 fs—a 25-percent improvement over the last generation. To develop the 300 mm UltraCMOS 12 platform, Peregrine collaborated with GLOBALFOUNDRIES, a semiconductor foundry.
RF SOI switches move into GaAs frequencies territory
Two UltraCMOS 60GHz RF SOI switches have been announced by Peregrine Semiconductor. The PE42525 and PE42625 extend Peregrine’s high frequency portfolio into frequencies previously dominated by gallium-arsenide (GaAs) technology. The SOI switches featuring fast switching, high isolation, low insertion loss and excellent linearity.
100W power limiter offers repeatable receiver protection
The UltraCMOS PE45361 is a monolithic 100W power limiter from Peregrine Semiconductor. Representing the next generation in Peregrine’s power limiter product family, the PE45361 builds on the success of the 50W UltraCMOS power limiters and adds higher pulsed power handling, a lower limiting threshold and positive threshold control.
RF SOI switches operate up to 60GHz
Peregrine Semiconductor has launched the UltraCMOS PE42525 and PE426525, said to be the industry’s first RF SOI switches to operate up to 60GHz. These two switches set a new standard for RF SOI at microwave frequencies and significantly extend Peregrine’s high frequency portfolio into frequencies previously dominated by gallium-arsenide (GaAs) technology.
Duo collaborate to develop microwave frequency tester
A collaboration between ATE solution provider Aemulus and Peregrine Semiconductor has been announced. The companies will partner in the development of a new microwave frequency tester. Building on the success of Aemulus’s Amoeba AMB7600 RF tester, this next-generation test solution will extend its support into microwave frequency bands and enable more complex testing.
GaN FET driver is claimed to be the world's fastest
Peregrine Semiconductor has announced what it claims to be the word’s fastest GaN FET driver, the UltraCMOS PE29100. Designed to drive the gates of a high-side and a low-side GaN FET in a switching configuration, the PE29100 delivers the industry’s fastest switching speeds, shortest propagation delays and lowest rise and fall times to AC/DC converters, DC/DC converters, class D audio amplifiers and wireless charging applications.
RF switch enables dual-band architecture for DOCSIS 3.1 Devices
Peregrine Semiconductor is describing its UltraCMOS PE42722 high-linearity RF switch as “a game changer for the cable industry” because it enables a dual upstream/downstream band architecture in cable customer premises equipment (CPE) devices. Previously CPE devices, such as set-top boxes, cable modems and home gateways, have previously supported only one upstream and downstream band at a time.
Switch & chip integrate RF, digital & analogue components
Integrating RF, digital and analogue components onto a single chip, a True SPDT DC switch and an X-band core chip have been released by Peregrine Semiconductor. The products, which are built on the company's UltraCMOS technology, offer performance advantages in high-performance markets through intelligent integration.
RF SOI switches offer alternative to GaAs technology
The first RF SOI (Silicon On Insulator) switches to deliver an alternative to incumbent gallium arsenide (GaAs) technology have been released by Peregrine Semiconductor. The PE42542 and PE42543 are UltraCMOS, 18GHz, broadband RF switches. Due the switches' UltraCMOS technology, they have features which GaAs technology does not.
SPDT switch targets outdoor unit WiFi access points
An SPDT (Single-Pole Double Throw) switch, optimised for 802.11ac carrier and enterprise WiFi access points, has been released by Peregrine Semiconductor. Compared to the PE42423, the PE42424 is claimed to be 75% smaller and features a 60% increase in power handling and a 350% faster switching speed.
Multi-throw switches feature operating temperatures to 105°C
The PE42442 and PE42452, high-isolation, multi-throw switches succeeding the PE42451, have been introduced by Peregrine Semiconductor. These switches feature enhanced operating temperatures up to 105°C maximum, logic control of 1.8V, power supply of 2.3-5.5V, insertion loss, isolation and ESD protection of 4kV HBM.
