The intend of this application note is to describe the behaviour of LEDs in respect to brightness by varying the current and to suggest solutions for avoiding negative influence for the application.
Behaviour of InGaN LEDs in Parallel Circuits
Some year s ago, the color range of Light Emitting Diodes ( L EDs) on the market was limited to the red to green spectrum. Then, blue LEDs were developed and introduced into the market . These blue devices made it possible to build so called “ single- chip white ” LEDs, using a yellow converter material in combination with a blue die. Most of the blue and white LEDs use Indium Gallium Nitrite (InGaN) as an epitaxial layer.

One black LED package, two beam angles, five colors - OSRAM Opto Semiconductors adds to its TOPLED Black Series portfolio
The small powerful LEDs in black packages are now available not only in red and yellow but also in blue, green and orange. OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has added three colors to its TOPLED Black Series 60° beam angle portfolio and now offers all five colors with a 30° beam angle. “This means that we have the broadest portfolio of ‘black’ LEDs on the market and can cover a wide range of applications”, said Product Manager Sven Weber.

From the OSRAM laboratory: efficiency record for warm white
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has set a new laboratory record of 142 lm/W for the efficiency of a warm white LED light source. With a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 2755 K the LED achieves a good color rendering index (CRI) of 81. Measurements were taken under standard conditions: room temperature and pulsed mode at an operating current density of 350 mA/mm².
