Student Project of the Year is in your hands
National Instruments is on a mission to find the most innovative student project of the year. Having visited hundreds of students from all over Northern Europe, NI have shortlisted the top six projects. These finalist projects range from incredible medical advancements to planet-saving machines, each of which is powered by NI technology.
PXI instruments target mil/aero applications
The Astronics PXIe-6943 Digital Test Instrument, Astronics PXIe-3352 Rubidium Clock Source and Astronics PXIe-1209 Pulse Pattern Generator are the latest products from NI and Astronics’ collaboration to provide PXI-based instruments with test program set-(TPS-) compatible software for existing VXI instruments.
The sky is not the limit for world's largest telescope
Dubbed “the world’s biggest eye on the sky,” the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT), aims to help scientists find extrasolar planets that are orbiting other stars, answer fundamental questions regarding planet formation and better understand the nature and distribution of dark matter and dark energy. The E-ELT project was undertaken by the European Southern Observatory (ESO).
Streaming live footage of Earth from space
LabVIEW and the PXI platform from National Instruments have been used to help develop earth observation cameras that can stream live footage from the International Space Station (ISS).
HIL simulators reduce development and test risk
At NIWeek in Austin, NI announced turnkey HIL Simulators built on an open, modular architecture to help automotive and aerospace embedded software testers maintain quality while handling the demands of shortened schedules, constantly changing test requirements and reduced manpower.
PXI-based solutions reduce semiconductor test cost
The NI PXIe-6570 digital pattern instrument and NI Digital Pattern Editor has been developed to free manufacturers of RFICs, power management ICs, MEMS devices and mixed-signal ICs from the closed architectures of conventional semiconductor automated test equipment (ATE). The requirements of the latest semiconductor devices often outpace the test coverage traditional ATE provides.
IoT, 5G test needs met by1GHz vector signal transceiver
A second-generation vector signal transceiver (VST) is announced today (July 12) by NI. The NI PXIe-5840 module is said to be the world’s first 1GHz bandwidth VST and is designed to solve the most challenging RF design and test applications. The NI PXIe-5840 combines a 6.5GHz RF vector signal generator, 6.5GHz vector signal analyser, high-performance user-programmable FPGA and high-speed serial and parallel digital interfaces into a single ...
PXI source measure unit offers 10fA current sensitivity
A source measure unit (SMU) with a measurement sensitivity of 10 fA and voltage output up to 200 V has been unveiled by National Instruments. Engineers can use the NI PXIe-4135 SMU to measure low-current signals and take advantage of the high channel density, fast test throughput and flexibility of NI PXI SMUs for applications such as wafer-level parametric test, materials research and characterisation of low-current sensors and ICs.
Pre-tested solution analyses sensor data
A collaboration between NI and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has produced pre-tested Big Analog Data solutions based on NI DataFinder Server Edition software and HPE Moonshot Systems. Engineers must collect and manage sensor data that is fundamentally different than what traditional big data solutions typically tackle.
Test solution targets 802.11ax high-efficiency wireless
An early access version of the WLAN Measurement Suite with support for the IEEE 802.11ax (draft 0.1) high-efficiency wireless draft standard has been announced by National Instruments. The WLAN Measurement Suite, combined with NI’s RF vector signal transceiver (VST), empowers engineers to measure the performance of their 802.11ax designs confidently in the presence of significant new changes to the 802.11 physical layer specification.
Developing cameras to stream live footage from the ISS
Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) is a department at the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) focused on space research and technology development. They have been involved in more than 200 space missions and have a reputation for designing, building and testing satellite instrumentation. By Mike Salter, SFTC RAL Space.
PXIe digital multimeter leads way to smarter test systems
A 7½-digit high-performance DMM and 1.8 MS/s isolated digitiser, the NI PXIe-4081, has been launched by NI. It is the first PXI Express DMM available, says the company. It offers engineers the flexibility, resolution and isolation needed to tackle challenging applications that require smarter test systems in industries ranging from consumer electronics to aerospace and defence.
Webcasts put focus on Condition Monitoring
NI is to host a series of Condition Monitoring webcasts, from May 9 to 13. Research shows that operation and maintenance managers as well as condition monitoring experts are constantly challenged to increase revenue, reduce costs and risk, and increase worker safety. All without spending more.
mmWave SDR accelerates 5G research
What is claimed to be the world’s first software defined radio (SDR) for the millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum has been announced by NI. The new NI mmWave Transceiver System is a full transceiver that can transmit and/or receive wide-bandwidth signals at 2GHz real-time bandwidth, covering the spectrum in the E-band, 71-76 GHz. Engineers and scientists have used SDRs ubiquitously in the spectrum below 6GHz for years.
