Microchip has announced further expansion of its AVR microcontroller (MCU) portfolio with the addition of three new devices to the tinyAVR MCU family. The new ATtiny1617 series of MCUs expands the range of AVR devices that feature Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs), which help to increase system throughput while lowering overall power consumption.

Microchip announces the CEC1702 hardware cryptography-enabled microcontroller which addresses the increasing need for security measures, such as secure boot, driven by the continual growth of IoT applications. The CEC1702 is a full-featured ARM Cortex-M4-based microcontroller with a complete hardware cryptography-enabled solution in a single package.
Motor-control tool comes with auto-tuning capability
Microchip announces the immediate availability of their advanced motor-control software plug-in for the MPLAB X IDE with auto-tuning and self-commissioning capability. The plug-in, called motorBench Development Suite, is a GUI-based tool with automatic tuning of feedback control gains and offline accurate measurement of critical motor parameters such as resistance, inductances and the back EMF constant.
Live-updateable controllers aid digital power
Microchip announces the dsPIC33EP128GS808 family of high-performance, live-updateable dsPIC DSCs. The new devices offer up to 128 KB of dual-partition Flash memory with live-update capability, advanced analogue features and enhanced CIPs suitable for high-end digital power applications such as AC/DC power supplies, DC/DC converters, power inverters and advanced lighting applications.

Microchip has announced the PIC16F15386 family, the most powerful launching point into the 8-bit PIC microcontroller (MCU) portfolio.
