MAHLE’s acquisition of the German transmission specialist ZG-Zahnräder und Getriebe adds significant extra transmission expertise to MAHLE Powertrain. ZG will be part of the MAHLE Powertrain family and the acquisition complements the company’s dual strategy for optimising the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and focusing on new developments in alternative drive technologies.

The new 48V battery design launched by MAHLE Powertrain at the Future Powertrain Conference in February 2019 looks set to boost the performance of mild hybrid road vehicles. The engineering services company, part of the MAHLE group, has designed and developed a working prototype battery to showcase the potential for the technology.

A £8.3m vehicle development and testing facility has been constructed by MAHLE Powertrain at its Northampton site. The centre, which benefited from a £2.1m investment from SEMLEP’s Local Growth Fund, will allow manufacturers to develop and test their vehicles on a new 4WD chassis dyno while being subjected to a wide range of altitude and climatic conditions. 

The next stage in the development of the UK’s first Real Driving Emissions Centre (RDEC) is complete, after MAHLE Powertrain took delivery of a new four-wheel drive chassis dynamometer. The product, manufactured and supplied by HORIBA UK, enables MAHLE to conduct fully certified vehicle emissions tests to all the latest international standards, including the new Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).

This year’s Low Carbon Vehicle (LCV) event at the Millbrook and its visitors will be the first to see MAHLE Powertrain’s eSupercharged downsized demonstrator vehicle on the road. First unveiled at Cenex LCV 2015, the past year has witnessed further development of MAHLE Powertrain’s groundbreaking demonstrator vehicle, which signals a bright future for mild hybrid gasoline engines.

Doors have been opened from engine development and consultancy company, MAHLE Powertrain, with its new half a million pound Vehicle Engineering Centre (VEC) in Northampton. The new VEC is a strong statement of MAHLE Powertrain’s commitment to the European car industry, and allows the company to extend its range of services and facilities offered to global vehicle manufacturers.

MAHLE Aftermarket will be mounting a major expansion programme in 2012 to broaden its influence in other key product sectors critical to modern vehicle engine technologies.
