IoT power needs mirror energy harvesting systems
At the low end of the power spectrum are the nanopower conversion requirements of energy harvesting systems such as those commonly found in IoT equipment, which necessitate the use of power conversion ICs that deal in very low levels of power and current. These can be tens of microwatts and nanoamps of current, respectively. Tony Armstrong, Director of Product Marketing Power Products, Linear Technology Corporation explains.
Simplify sideband & carrier suppression calibration
Enabling battery-powered, high performance broadband transmitters operating from 700MHz to 6GHz, Linear Technology introduces a low power I/Q modulator. The LTC5589 is powered by a single 2.7 to 3.6V supply and draws only 29.5mA current. According to the manufacturer, this is 50% lower power consumption than other solutions.
Inverting DC/DC controller offers efficiencies up to 96%
Driving an all N-channel synchronous power MOSFET stage, the LTC3896 high voltage inverting switching regulator controller has been unveiled by Linear Technology. Most low to medium power inverting DC/DC converters utilise a coupled inductor or transformer. However, the LTC3896 uses only a single inductor and converts a 4V to 150V positive input voltage to a regulated negative output voltage from -60 to -0.8V at output currents up to 15A.
16-bit, 5MS/s SAR ADC simplifies AFE circuitry
A 16-bit, 5MS/s SAR (Successive Approximation Register) ADC with a wide rail-to-rail input common mode range, the LTC2311-16, has been introduced by Linear Technology. The LTC2311-16 features a flexible differential input that accepts analogue signals up to the Nyquist frequency. This provides direct conversion of a variety of signal types while maintaining a good SNR of 81.6dB with a 2.2MHz input signal and achieving a high CMRR of 85dB for the ...
Controller eliminates the need for external surge protection
Driving an all N-channel MOSFET power stage, the LTC3895 high voltage non-isolated synchronous step-down switching regulator controller has been unveiled by Linear Technology. Its 4 to 140V (150V absolute maximum) input voltage range is designed to operate from a high input voltage source or from an input that has high voltage surges, eliminating the need for external surge suppression devices.
100V monolithic flyback regulator delivers up to 24W
Linear Technology announces the LT8304, a monolithic flyback regulator that significantly simplifies the design of isolated DC/DC converters. By sampling the isolated output voltage directly from the primary-side flyback waveform, the part requires no opto-isolator or third winding for regulation.
Low loss 3-phase suitable diode bridge rectifier reduces heat
Linear Technology Corporation announces the availability of a low loss 3-phase suitable diode bridge rectifier reference design, demonstrated on evaluation board DC2465. Conventional 3-phase rectifiers employ six diodes, but the diodes drop voltage and dissipate significant power at just a few amperes of load current. This requires costly heat sinking and active cooling solutions that complicate thermal design and increase solution size.
Dual 4A µModule regulator operates up to 93% efficiency
Supplied in a compact 9x11.25x4.92mm BGA package, the LTM4642 dual 4A or single 8A step-down µModule regulator has been unveiled by Linear Technology. The device operates from a 2.375 to 20V input voltage range and regulates two output voltages adjustable from 0.6 to 5.5V.
Solutions for BMS development
This week’s Hannover Messe will see Scienlab present its engineering services and products for the entire development chain of battery management systems (BMS) on Linear Technology’s stand – H23, Hall 9.
Plug & Play IoT solution at Hannover Fair 2016
VersaSense will present live demonstrations of its award-winning MicroPnP product range at Hannover Messe, Linear Technology Stand H23, Hall 9. MicroPnP is based on SmartMesh IP embedded networking and uses IoT technologies to realise zero-configuration wireless sensing and actuation at a significantly lower price point than traditional wired solutions.
'World's first' Plug & Play IoT platform
Vicotee AS, part of the Virinco Group, announces the release of Vicotee - a wireless mesh IoT sensor interface which utilises SmartMesh IP from Linear Technology Corporation. Launching officially at Linear Technology’s booth H23-Hall 9 at the Hannover Fair 2016 Exhibition, this innovative IoT solution provides a vast array of opportunities for increased control and efficiency of physical infrastructure, made possible through the collection ...
Surge stopper protects always-on 4 to 72V electronics
Designed for automotive, industrial and avionic systems, Linear Technology introduces the LTC4380 ultralow quiescent current (IQ) surge stopper. The LTC4380 replaces traditional shunt circuits composed of bulky inductors, capacitors, suppressors and fuses with a simple IC and series N-channel MOSFET solution to offer compact overvoltage and overcurrent protection for always-on 4 to 72V electronics.
Switching regulator delivers 93% efficiency at 2MHz
The new LT8608 from Linear Technology is a 1.5A, 42V input synchronous step-down switching regulator with synchronous rectification topology that delivers 93% efficiency while switching at 2MHz. This enables designers to avoid critical noise sensitive frequency bands, such as AM radio, while using a very compact solution footprint. Burst Mode operation keeps quiescent current under 2.5µA in no-load standby conditions making it well suited f...
VersaSense presents MicroPnP at Hannover Messe
VersaSense will present live demonstrations of its award-winning MicroPnP product range at Hannover Messe, Linear Technology Stand H23, Hall 9. MicroPnP is based on SmartMesh IP embedded networking and uses IoT technologies to realise zero-configuration wireless sensing and actuation at a significantly lower price point than traditional wired solutions.
µModule regulator operates from 3.3VIN to 15VIN
Linear introduces the LTM4632, a triple output µModule regulator for powering all three voltage rails of the new QDR4 and older DDR SRAM: VDDQ, VTT and VTTR (or VREF). Housed in a miniature, lightweight, ultrathin LGA package (6.25x6.25x1.82mm), the LTM4632 can be soldered on the backside of the PCB, and with one resistor and three capacitors it occupies only 0.5cm² (dual-) or 1cm² (single-sided).

Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC2876 and LTC2877, exceptionally rugged, high voltage tolerant RS485 transceivers targeted for PROFIBUS-DP (decentralised periphery) master and slave devices. As with any fieldbus, PROFIBUS-DP systems are prone to installation cross-wiring faults, ground voltage faults, or surge, which can cause catastrophic overvoltage conditions that exceed the absolute maximum ratings of typical transceivers.
