ImgTec to demo Vulkan graphics API on Android tab

Imagination Technologies reports that a multi-core processor from Russian fabless IC company Baikal Electronics integrates ImgTec’s latest MIPS Warrior P-class P5600 CPU. Baikal created the Baikal-T1 with a focus on versatility, high operating frequency and low power consumption to allow its customers to build efficient solutions for telecomms, industrial automation and embedded systems.
Java SE 8 is optimised for MIPS architecture
Imagination Technologies has announced Java SE 8 for MIPS, as part of an ongoing collaboration with Oracle intended to enhance Java for embedded and IoT applications and optimise Java for the MIPS CPU architecture. MIPS supports 12mm² low-power IoT & wearables chip
Samsung president Young Sohn was at the recent IoT World conference in San Francisco to introduce a family of low-power chips designed for next-gen IoT devices. One of the chips presented on stage, ARTIK 1, features a MIPS32-based, dual-core application processor, flash storage, a crypto engine and Bluetooth Smart radios for communication.
Raft of upgrades released for development board
Imagination Technologies has announced significant upgrades for its high-performance, low-power MIPS-based Creator CI20 development board featuring a PowerVR GPU. The board includes support for Imagination’s FlowCloud IoT platform, a square form factor, a modified board layout to optimise WiFi speed and stability and updated software for Linux and Android. The software additions are compatible with all current CI20 boards.

Firefox OS optimised for chip featuring MIPS & Power VR
Imagination Technologies has announced that an experimental version of Firefox OS from Mozilla has been ported to run on a reference tablet incorporating a 1.2 GHz dual-core MIPS CPU and a PowerVR SGX540 GPU. This is the same Ingenic JZ4780 chip as can be found inside the recently-launched Creator CI20 microcomputer, and the reference tablet will also support Android 4.4 KitKat.
Cocos2d-x optimised for MIPS-based devices
Imagination Technologies and Chukong, creator of the open source game engine Cocos2d-x, have announced that the latest version of Cocos2d-x has been optimised to run on devices with Imagination’s MIPS CPUs or PowerVR GPUs. More than 400,000 developers worldwide, including developers of seven out of the ten top grossing games in China, rely on Cocos2d-x to build their mobile games.

MIPS' silicon footprint suits inexpensive LTE design
Imagination Technologies and Altair Semiconductor have reported growing market traction for Altair’s LTE chipsets that utilise MIPS CPUs to support tablets, mobile hotspots, routers and M2M devices. Altair’s LTE devices, including the FourGee-3100/6200 chipset, have been the communications engine inside millions of devices sold by over 30 connected device manufacturers to date.
GPU achieves 800GFLOPS (FP32) or 1.6TFLOPS (FP16)
At last year’s Mobile World Congress, Imagination Technologies unveiled PowerVR GX6650, a high-end Series6XT GPU for flagship devices. Today, focus has shifted to PowerVR GT7900, the highest performing GPU from ImgTec's Series7XT family. MIPS IP cores help ease LTE development, says ImgTec
Imagination Technologies has announced that its MIPS CPU IP cores continue to gain traction in LTE devices through the latest designs from 4G chipmaker Sequans Communications. MIPS CPUs are at the heart of Sequans’ Colibri and Calliope platforms for the LTE-enabled IoT. In addition, Sequans’ chipsets and modules with MIPS inside are finding their way into an increasing number of end products.
