RF IP enables automotive dual-mode V2X communications
Imagination Technologies has announced that its CRF4600 radio frequency RF IP has been integrated into Autotalks’ PLUTON2 RFIC transceiver, which is part of Autotalks’ solution for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication. The IP is now in silicon and expected to be in production by 2021.
New European office focuses on IP designed for AI and computer vision
Imagination Technologies has opened a new design centre in Timisoara, Romania. The centre will focus on IP designed for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer vision. The team will initially focus on software and test activities, expanding in the future to areas such as system architecture and design.
What does 2020 have in store for technology?
If 2019 (and let’s be honest, the entire last decade), has taught us anything it’s that we live in an uncertain and unpredictable world. What is certain is that technology will play an integral part in just about every aspect of society in the future. Here, experts at Imagination Technologies gaze into their crystal ball and offer some insight into how technology will advance across different industries over the next 12 months.
Ray tracing: a game-changing technology
For any engineer worth their salt working with AR/VR/XR, product design or simulation, ray tracing is a technology with which they should become familiar. This is because it is one of the most significant advances in graphics since the beginning of 3D itself and it is about to move from the rarefied world of movies and advertising, into embedded categories like mobile, wearables and automotive as new, more efficient ways of processing ray tracing...
What are the trends in autonomous vehicle security?
Autonomous vehicles (AVs) are going to transform our driving habits, the transportation industry and wider society. We’ll not only be able to hail a car to our doorstep and send it away once used, but AVs will also challenge the concept of car ownership and have a positive impact on the environment and congestion. However, one topic remains high on the agenda: security. By Marc Canel, Vice President of Strategy, Security, Imagination...
Automotive GPU for in-vehicle infotainment solutions
Imagination Technologies’ PowerVR Series9XTP has been selected by Telechips, for use in its in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) and vehicle cockpit solutions. The hardware virtualisation capabilities of the PowerVR architecture is capable of hosting multiple operating systems (OS) using a single GPU core with no impact on performance.
Women in technology – the importance of influencing parents
With Women in Engineering Day fast approaching, Electronic Specifier caught up with Rosanna Ashworth-Jones, Leading Developer Technology Engineer, Imagination Technologies who explained the importance of influencing people, especially parents.
Ray tracing technology enables realistic 3D graphics
Enabling realistic image rendering using light-modelling techniques to be integrated into graphics processing units (GPUs) across mobile, automotive, server and other markets, Imagination Technologies has announced its PowerVR Ray Tracing technology for licensing. The technology is part of PowerVR’s ongoing GPU roadmap which delivers optimal PPA (Power Performance Area) solutions.
GNSS receiver for small applications that connect to satellites
You may not be familiar with the phrase Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), but you probably take advantage of it every day as it encompasses all satellite based global location systems; GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou. By Richard Edgar, Director of Communications Technology, Ensigma, Imagination Technologies
What is AIoT and why does it matter?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is probably one of the most talked about technologies. Everyone wants to claim that their product has AI in it, even if it doesn’t. And if it does contain ‘AI’, what type are we talking here? By Andrew Grant, Senior Business Development Director, Vision & AI, Imagination Technologies
New and enhanced developer tools for Android released
Imagination Technologies has announced new and enhanced tools to help developers optimise Android graphics performance for devices with PowerVR GPUs. These are: PVRMonitor for real time GPU and CPU performance statistics; PVRTune for profiling and analysing applications; and PVRStudio for seamless CPU/GPU debugging on PowerVR devices.
embedded world: Duo work on ultra-low power connected MPU for IoT
Today (February 26) at embedded world in Nuremberg, Imagination Technologies and Andes Technology, a specialist in low-power, high-performance 32/64-bit processor IP cores unveiled a collaboration to integrate the new N22 RISC-V MCU IP from Andes with Ensigma low-power IP for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, IEEE 802.15.4 and GNSS to provide a fully integrated, off-the-shelf solution for the IoT market.
Efficient range of GPUs deliver high performance
It has been announced by Imagination Technologies that they have introduced the PowerVR Series9XEP, Series9XMP, and Series9XTP. Representing PowerVR’s GPU line-up, these three new Series9 GPU families range from entry-level to high-end and incorporate efficiency improvements and new features to deliver high performance.
A new automotive world order
The landscape of the automotive industry is shifting, and with several disruptive influences, a new automotive world order is upon us. This has been the driving (excuse the pun), force behind Imagination Technologies’ launch of PowerVR Automotive - a complete product package to enable growth and acceleration of the automotive semiconductor industry - combining five essential elements - hardware IP, software, tools, documentation and long te...
Visually lossless image compression with reduction in memory footprint
The new generation of powerful image compression technology has been announced by Imagination Technologies with the PowerVR PVRIC4, which will aim to enable SoC customers targeting devices such as DTVs, smartphones and tablets to reduce costs without a discernible loss of image quality.
Comprehensive GNSS IP joins wireless communications portfolio
A comprehensive Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) IP offering has been announced by Imagination Technologies. The Ensigma Location GNSS IP core supports GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou as well as several Satellite-Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) including WAAS and EGNOS.
Collaboration to deliver ultra-low-power connectivity solutions
At its annual GTC 2018 conference, Imagination Technologies and GLOBALFOUNDRIES (GF) announced a joint collaboration to provide ultra-low-power baseband and radio frequency (RF) solutions for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and IEEE 802.15.4 technology, using Imagination’s Ensigma connectivity IP on GF’s 22nm FD-SOI (22FDX) platform.
Five reasons to use the PowerVR Series8XT for automotive
You know that future everyone keeps talking about, the one with powerful AI, reusable space rockets and flying cars. Well, it’s sort of happening.
