Do micro EVs help or hinder mainstream e-car sales?
According to a recent report from IDTechEx, 'Hybrid and Pure Electric Cars 2014-2024: Technologies, Markets, Forecasts', those making or intending to make electric cars or their components have big strategy decisions ahead. The report also indicates that these decisions must be made in the context of all car-like vehicles, whether homologated as cars or as something else.
Supercapacitors to take 50% of lithium-ion battery market
According to a report published by IDTechEx, the use of graphene electrodes within supercapacitors and superbatteries will allow them to to take up to half of the lithium-ion battery market within 15 years. The electrodes, the report suggests, will also allow supercapacitors to take up much of aluminium electrolytic capacitor market.
Market for electric motorcycles will be worth $12bn by 2025
In a recent report, IDTechEx estimates that by 2025 the market for electric motorcycles will be worth $12bn. This forecast, discussed in the report entitled 'Electric Motorcycles and Three Wheel Electric Vehicles 2015-2025', is almost five times greater than that for e-bikes. Thus, this emerging market is one to be considered by those within the EV sector.
AMOLED display market will reach $16bn by 2020
Detailing a 10 year forecast by both market segments and display type (distinguishing between rigid plastic and flexible displays), IDTechEx has released the 'OLED Display Forecasts 2014-2024: The Rise of Plastic and Flexible Displays' report. Based on the information in this report, the company has forecast that the market for plastic and flexible OLED displays will rise to $16bn by 2020.

Based on the report 'Functional Materials for Supercapacitors / Ultracapacitors / EDLC 2015-2025', IDTechEx has forecast that the market for functional materials for supercapacitors will reach $5bn by 2025.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for agriculture
The DLG (German Agricultural Society) Field Days 2014, held recently at the DLG Crop Protection Center at Bernberg-Strenzfeld, Germany, showcased many new innovations in crop production for the German and other European producers present.
IDTechEx webinar explores wearable technology
IDTechEx has announced that it will host a free webinar on Tuesday July 22nd 2014 presented by Dr Peter Harrop, Chairman, IDTechEx and entitled 'Wearable Technology 2015-2025'. The first wave of conventional wearable technology was a big market for electronics on the ear and wrist; the second wave is starting now, consisting of web-connected and advanced technology watches, glasses, headsets, smart skin patches and virtual reality headsets. A thi...
Multi-motor EV market to reach $144bn by 2025
The IDTechEx report on electric motors, which has become a reference for suppliers and users of EV's, has been revised. The report, Electric Motors for Hybrid and Pure Electric Vehicles 2015-2025: Land, Water, Air, has found that there will be a $144bn market for multi-motor EV's by 2025. Contributing to this is the 8.9m more motors that will be available for multi-motor vehicles.
Supercapacitors and graphene overtake batteries
The worlds of supercapacitors and graphene are converging. That is why IDTechEx has a complete two day nine conference co-located event on these subjects, which will take place in Santa Clara, CA this November 19-20.
Supercapacitors can destroy the lithium-ion battery market
As tracked by market research company IDTechEx and further explained in the recently updated report “Electrochemical Double Layer Capacitors: Supercapacitors 2014-2024”, supercapacitors are improving faster than lithium-ion batteries in most respects. A gradual increase in the supercapacitor component and decrease of the battery component is in prospect with IDTechEx forecasting that the global market value for supercapacitors will be...
Wearable technology for animals - IDTechEx forecasts a $2.6bn market worth watching
Dr Peter Harrop, Chairman, IDTechEx Wearable technology for humans is all the rage. As “the next big thing”, it involves head-on clashes between some of the largest companies on the planet. Those interested in such technologies would therefore be wise to take a look at wearable technology for animals - from ultrasound-delivering treatment patches and electronic saddle optimisation for horses to collars on many other animals that vari...
Electric Cars Reinvented - $178.9 Billion Market
IDTechEx finds that the global sale of hybrid and pure electric cars will triple to $178.9 billion in 2024 as they are transformed in most respects. IDTechEx quantifies the Internet of Things market
Analyst views of the Internet of Things (IoT) vary drastically depending on how one defines the topic. As a result, there is the potential for much hyping. Having thoroughly researched the topic, IDTechEx has mapped the IoT ecosystem as shown in the diagram below, where IoT centres on things collaborating with things without human intervention at the time. These things have internet protocol (IP) addresses, microcontrollers for local data process...
Why the interest in e-textiles?
By Dr Peter Harrop, Chairman, IDTechEx The heart of the e-textile business as it emerges is electric and electronic functionality from sensing to light emission, achieved entirely by use of e-fibers. Components and interconnections intrinsic to the fabric, or at least widely distributed through the fabric, are less visible and not susceptible to becoming tangled together or snagged by the surroundings. An e-textile can be worn in everyday situat...
The race for flexible and wearable phones
Mobile phones and associated wearable electronics are now part of what is called the Internet of People. They will often have very flexible displays, some tightly rolled into a conventional phone body. When pulled out, these screens will gather useful amounts of electricity from the sun as the user enjoys the large screen created with its haptic (feel what you do) keyboard.
