Electric utilities can now provide real-time data on energy power consumption with Hybrid Gateways integrating G.hn Powerline (PLC) technology as broadband backhaul for a complete range of proven technologies, according to evidence from MaxLinear and Microchip Technology.

HomeGrid Forum has announced that Signify, has joined the organisation to expand the innovation and deployment of G.hn technology for Light Fidelity (LiFi) applications. Trulifi by Signify provides a range of LiFi systems that ensure a fast, secure and reliable wireless connection. LiFi is a wireless communication technology that uses LEDs to transmit data at high speeds over the visible light, ultraviolet and infrared spectrums.

HomeGrid Forum is celebrating the advancements of G.hn technology in Gigabit broadband access as Comtrend has unveiled a new range of G.hn adapters – enabling users to extend their local area network through existing powerlines, reducing operational costs and the need for additional infrastructure.

Dr Len Dauphinee, President of HomeGrid Forum, has revealed the Alliance’s G.hn technology roadmap at the 23rd IEEE International Symposium on Power Line Communications (ISPLC). HomeGrid Forum’s attendance at the event follows its recent expansion of G.hn technology beyond the home to enable Smart Cities. 

The demand for Smart Cities across the world has led the HomeGrid Forum to expand its work for 2019 into Smart Grids, Internet of Things (IoT), Connected Cars, and Visible Light Communication (VLC). On the opening day of CES 2019, HomeGrid Forum announced the expansion of G.hn technology beyond the home to enable Smart Cities.

  ‘The key to consumer connectivity needs and interoperability is standardisation and certification of devices’ was the message given by the Marketing Chair of HomeGrid Forum, Livia Rosu at this year’s Total Telecom Congress. 

The recent IoT Tech Expo North America saw Donna Yasay, President of HomeGrid Forum, discuss with a panel of technology peers, how certification programmes are at the forefront of interoperability, and the answer for vendors looking to keep up with today’s growing industry for smart home innovation.
