ams’ Jennifer Zhao named ‘Woman of the Year’
ams has congratulated Jennifer Zhao, who was awarded ‘Woman of the Year’ at Questex’s Sensors Innovation Week 2020. Jennifer is the Executive Vice President and General Manager of ams’ Advanced Optical Sensors Division, and received the award on November 14th, 2020 at the Questex ‘Best Of Sensors’.
ams sells MEMs microphone business to Knowles
ams has sold its MEMS microphone interface design assets to its customer Knowles Corporation, a supplier of advanced micro-acoustic, audio processing, and precision device solutions. The deal confirms ams’s strategy to focus on sensor solutions.
Boost automotive electrification with first inductive position sensor
ams has introduced an inductive position sensor for high-speed, automotive and industrial electric motors to be available as a standard product on the open market. New rotor position sensing solutions based on the AS5715 can match the accuracy and latency of resolvers widely used in high-speed motor applications, while providing substantial savings in bill-of-materials cost, size and weight.
Highly integrated optical sensors project successfully completed
ams has announced the successful completion of the Highly Integrated Optical Sensors Project. The €4.3 million HIOS project aims to enable ams and its consortium partners, the process and equipment suppliers APC, Boschman and Bühler Leybold Optics, to stay at the forefront of sensor integration and drive competitiveness in their respective markets.
Active stereo vision system boosts 3D adoption
ams has introduced a new ASV technology product portfolio which enables manufacturers of consumer, computing and industrial products to implement face recognition and other 3D sensing applications more easily and at lower cost.
High performance temperature sensors for wearables
ams has introduced the AS621x-generation of temperature sensors delivering performance across a broad range of products, including a wide range of consumer electronic devices and wearables, health-related monitoring systems and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Sensor eliminates flicker artefacts for smartphone images and videos
ams has introduced a sensor solution that enables smartphone world-facing cameras with rolling shutter image sensors to eliminate unwanted image artefacts - such as banding - that are caused by the flickering of artificial light sources. With the wide-spread usage of LED lighting, photography increasingly suffers from what is known as flicker from the lighting source.
Tiny proximity detection triggers extend time between battery charges
ams has launched a tiny digital proximity sensor module. The ultra-small package of the TMD2635 occupies just one millimetre cubed of volume and enables audio manufacturers of True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbud products to develop smaller, lighter industrial design earbuds.

ams has introduced a new ASV technology product portfolio which enables manufacturers of consumer, computing and industrial products to implement face recognition and other 3D sensing applications more easily and at lower cost.
Enabling smartphones with space-saving accurate distance measurement
ams has released a tiny integrated module for direct time-of-flight (ToF) distance measurement providing accurate measurements from two centimetres up to 2.5m. The TMF8801 is more than 30% smaller than competing ToF sensors, making it perfect for compact space constrained designs, yet offers superior performance in important parameters including accuracy and usability in the presence of sunlight.
Tiny digital IR proximity sensing module enhances earbuds
ams has launched what they claim to be the world’s smallest digital proximity sensor module. The ultra-small package of the TMD2635 occupies just 1mm3 of volume and enables audio manufacturers of True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbud products to develop smaller, lighter industrial design earbuds.
Partnership to speed delivery of 3D and NIR sensors
ams has signed a formal letter of intent to collaborate in the field of Image Sensors with SmartSens Technology, a global supplier of high-performance CMOS image sensors. This collaboration complements ams’ strategic approach to further broaden its portfolio for all three 3D technologies while accelerating time to market for a more differentiated set of new products.
