A family of IP67-rated switches has been extended in response to smartphone and mobile device demand for smaller and thinner electronic components. ALPS ELECTRIC EUROPE's SKTD Series of side push TACT switches fulfil these mobile device demands as the height of the switch above the PCB is restricted to 1.55mm. 

Suitable for embedding in smartphones, wearable electronics, digital cameras and other electronic devices, ALPS ELECTRIC EUROPE unveils the IP67-rated SKTC series double-action TACT switch. According to the manufacturer, the series boasts the industry’s smallest dimensions for a double-action type of 3.40x2.20x0.62mm.

ALPS Electric and Cirque Corporation, the original developer of capacitive sensing technology, have announced that their GlidePoint Trackpad has passed Microsoft Precision Touchpad (PTP) certification. As technology partners, Cirque and ALPS have worked closely with Microsoft Corp. to bring about this latest touchpad solution which enables customers to take advantage of the newest touchpad features available in Windows 8.1.

Designed specifically for automotive use, the UMSZ2 Series is a multi GNSS module providing support for multiple satellite positioning systems with a single module. The series, from ALPS Electric, will be made available from April 2014.

ALPS has developed the “RDCC0 Series” rotary sensor for angle detection in devices such as foot controllers (pedals). Foot controllers for products like sewing machines, musical instruments and amusement machines need to be able to accurately determine the angle of the pressed pedal. ALPS Green Devices has today introduced a new series of high-precision current sensors. The new “GCBC Series” achieves compact size, light weight and low loss. The GCBC Series supports a maximum continuous current up to ±50A and ALPS Green Devices is developing sensors that will detect currents of up to 150A. Samples will be made available from July 2013.

ALPS in May 2013 made an investment in Qualtré. ALPS and Qualtré already carry out joint development of inertial sensors. The investment reinforces the existing partnership and allows for further strengthening of ALPS’ sensor business.

ALPS has developed a switch with wire harness for its “SPVQ8 Series” lineup of the industry’s smallest waterproof detector switches, ideal for detection of opening and closing or position detection in products such as automotive parts and white goods. Mass production commenced in May 2013.

With the UGZZE-M11A ALPS is now offering a IEEE802.11a/b/g/n compatible wireless LAN module with data transmission rates of up to 150Mbps. Due to the low current consumption of 380mA during transmission and 150mA when receiving, the module is suitable for TVs, home audio and digital cameras.
