SD memory cards deliver up to 100x longer data retention
Designed for TCO-optimised applications, the S-40 and S-40u Series SD and Micro SD memory cards have been made available by Swissbit. Swissbit claim that these are the first SD and Micro SD cards on the market to feature autonomous data refresh that requires no intervention by the host or application. Further to these claims, Swissbit also boast that intelligent algorithms enable the memory cards to deliver up to 100x longer data retention than conventional SD memory cards.
Both memory cards include intelligent read disturb management, which feature alongside an autonomous, performance-neutral background "auto refresh" process. Swissbit claim that this type of data care management significantly improves data reliability and balances out the increasing limitations of MLC NAND flash during long operation time and extensive use in the field. Both cards deliver data transfer rates of up to 11 MB/s for write and up to 24 MB/s for read operations, putting them into SD3.0 speed class 6. Swissbit guarantee data retention for many years due to the cards featuring diagnostic functions, which offer highly detailed status information plus standalone data maintenance. This data retention is also able to be delivered in especially rough environmental conditions and in extreme temperatures. Both cards prevent read disturb bit errors even in intensive read applications.
Due to an extended operating life in the field and long data reliability, users can benefit from the shortest possible downtimes. Swissbit further claim that the controller offers the best error correction code on the market which employs modern firmware architecture and supports future MLC generations. The firmware can be updated as required.
The cards have been designed for challenging applications where data is primarily called up for reading, such as automotive/navigation, infotainment and POI/POS applications. The S-40 SD cards are available with up to 32 GB, with the S-40u Micro SD cards available from 4 GB up to 16 GB.
