Kontron ready for next-gen Intel Xeon server processor
Kontron today announced during Mobile World Congress 2010 that four new upcoming products from its AdvancedTCA, Communication Rack Mount Server (CRMS), and Server Motherboard product lines will feature a new and breakthrough Intel Xeon server processor that is expected to be launched later this year. As the next evolution of the Intel Xeon 5500 45nm quad-core processors released by Intel last year, this next generation Intel Xeon processor offers many new design benefits that cover improved energy efficiency, memory and security functions. Kontron representatives are providing one-on-one briefings during the show at Booth 2A28 in Hall 2.0.
The The four Kontron products that will feature the next generation Intel Xeon processor are:
Kontron CG2100 Carrier Grade Server
Kontron is further extending its commitment to telecom customers with a new 2U carrier grade server, the Kontron CG2100, scheduled for release later in 2010. This innovative server combines performance, ruggedness, reliability, and long life in a NEBS-3 and ETSI-compliant 2U chassis. As for the Next Generation Intel Xeon processor, the Kontron CG2100 will support a dual socket approach that couples high performance with power efficiency for improved performance-per-watt over previous-generation rack-mount servers.
The Kontron CG2100 is an excellent choice for the demanding environment and limited space of telecom central offices and network data centers, and enables OEMs and TEMs to create specialized, value-added applications including unified messaging, SoIP, call control, media and signaling gateways, and operational system support. Its ruggedness also makes it ideal for the military and medical segments, where meeting tough environmental requirements is critical.
Kontron IP Network Server NSN2U:
Kontron will also add support for the Next Generation Intel Xeon processor to its existing Kontron NSN2U IP Network Server, providing significant compute performance improvements. The Kontron NSN2U is an excellent choice for network security applications - including intrusion detection/intrusion prevention, VPN/firewall, and unified threat management solutions. It is also well-suited for enterprise application acceleration and content caching, as well as for running Telco SoIP, including IMS, IPTV, video on demand (VoD), SIP application servers, IP-PBX, and IP-PSTN gateways.
Kontron AT8050 ATCA Processor Blade:
The Kontron AT8050 is an ATCA processor blade based on a single Intel Xeon L5518 quad-core processor with a 60W power envelope. This blade is socket compatible with the next-generation Intel Xeon processor, and is compliant to PICMG 3.1 Option 9, Option 2. The Kontron AT8050 features 10 + 10 Gigabit Ethernet on the Fabric Interface, plus two 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet on the Base Interface and two 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet via the Front Panel or RTM. Expansion features include one AdvancedMC mid-size slot supporting PCI Express x4, and SATA /SAS interfaces. The Kontron AT8050 achieves the best price versus performance for TEMs building ATCA systems for media server (IMS), 3G, and LTE wireless system equipment.
Kontron KTC5520 Server Board:
Designed with an extensive feature-set and two new Intel Xeon 5500 series 45nm quad-core processors, this cost-effective Kontron KTC5520-EATX SSI EEB-compliant server board offers extreme performance, high I/O bandwidth and exceptional reliability - backed by a 7-year life-cycle support program. As a dual socket server board, the Kontron KTC5520 is also compatible to support two next-gen Intel Xeon processors, making it the ideal solution for OEMs designing a multitude of applications found in the medical imaging, simulation, storage and multimedia telecom and data center markets.
The server board features a built-in ability to be fully managed remotely, using an Integrated Management Processor (IMP) that integrates VGA/2D, BMC, and KVM/VM over IP to support real-time access with full control by keyboard, video monitor and mouse (KVM) and virtual media (VM) by a single local computer from anywhere, at any time.
