Insight SiP has introduced the ISP2454-MX, the smallest module of its kind, measuring just 8 x 8 x 1mm.

This compact module, designed to operate in extended temperatures of up to 105°C, is geared towards supporting next-generation Bluetooth solutions, including advanced features such as Angle of Arrival (AoA) and the newly introduced Bluetooth Channel Sounding technology. Built on the latest Nordic nRF54L15 chip, the module offers significant performance improvements with its 4th generation radio and double-speed microprocessor, all while being more cost-effective than previous nRF52-based devices.

The ISP2454-MX is powered by a robust 128MHz Arm M33F processor, complemented by advanced security features through ARM TrustZone. Power efficiency has been enhanced in both active and sleep modes. The module also boasts increased memory capacity with 1.5MB of storage and 256KB of RAM, enabling it to handle more complex and demanding applications. Despite these enhancements, it remains competitively priced, making it an excellent option for cost-sensitive applications.

Packaged in Insight SiP’s signature 8 x 8 x 1mm form factor, the ISP2454-MX is a fully integrated solution with RF matching, an embedded antenna, and includes both 32MHz and 32kHz crystals. It also features DC-DC support for each processor, enabling it to function as a complete Bluetooth node, requiring only a power supply for operation.

The module supports a broad range of peripheral connections such as HS-SPI, SPI, UART, and I2S, and includes a software-programmable peripheral-independent 128MHz RISC processor for high-speed peripheral support. In addition to Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), the module is capable of running Zigbee, Thread, and other 802.15.4-based protocols, all concurrently with BLE. These protocols are supported by the Zephyr real-time operating system, which provides a comprehensive suite of drivers and services for easy application development.

Nick Wood, Sales and Marketing Director at Insight SiP, commented on the new release: “The new ISP2454 represents the next generation of Bluetooth technology, offering more features and capabilities at a lower cost. Its compact footprint and full integration make this RF module ‘ready to go’ for customers. It also maintains footprint and pin compatibility with nRF52-based modules from Insight SiP, providing an easy upgrade path for existing users.”

The ISP2454 module is designed to run efficiently on a coin cell battery, with its ultra-low power consumption and advanced power management allowing for several years of battery life.

Initial samples of the ISP2454 are available now, with full production scheduled to begin in 2025. Certification is currently pending. To assist product developers, Insight SiP will offer comprehensive development kits and sample software, providing everything needed to begin development immediately.
