GNSS with fibre-powered link enhances timing synchronisation
HUBER+SUHNER has introduced a fibre-powered link for GNSS that promises to enhance timing synchronisation for enterprise applications.
This offers enterprise applications requiring stringent time synchronisation access to the forefront of technology, as HUBER+SUHNER unveils an updated version of the copper-free fibre-powered link.
The HUBER+SUHNER Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Power-over-Fibre solution eradicates the necessity for an external power supply for the active antenna in GNSS-utilised navigation, positioning, timing, and geodesy applications. This approach prevents voltage surges, diminishes the risk of spoofing, and facilitates the separation of antenna positions to ensure dependable signal transmission.
Unveiled at OFC 2024, the updated version is tailored for enterprises, financial institutions, and trading companies that demand precise timing synchronisation. This precision is critical for the consistent performance of database clusters, crucial for the secure exchange of information between data centres and from the Cloud to the Edge.

GNSS clock synchronisation offers accuracy and stability over vast distances, ensuring precise timing for every global location. It stands as the most reliable time reference for Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and Network Time Protocol (NTP), the primary standards for synchronising clocks across network devices.
The adoption of fibre optics for synchronisation significantly reduces the likelihood of errors when compared to conventional reference methods.
The GNSS and Power-over-Fibre solution will be showcased at several global events in 2024. These include the OFC exhibition in San Diego, California, from the 26-28th March (booth #4137), the NAB exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada, from the 13-17th April (booth #SU3050), and the ANGA COM exhibition in Cologne, Germany, from the 14-16th May (Hall 8, B30).
