Mentor Graphics Corporation today announced the release of a GENIVI 2.0-compliant, Linux-based In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) Solution. The Mentor Embedded IVI Base Platform includes new GENIVI 2.0 features such as audio manager support and lower-level system management functions. Target hardware platform support includes the Sabre and SabreLite IVI solutions from Freescale, specifically targeted at the IVI marketplace

“ADIT, a joint venture of Robert Bosch Car Multimedia GmbH and DENSO Corporation, has selected Mentor Graphics as one of their OSV partners to develop a GENIVI 2.0-compliant software platform,” stated Dr. Wilhelm Grabow, managing director at ADIT. “We chose to work with Mentor due to their active participation in GENIVI and availability of GENIVI-based standard product portfolio, plus Mentor’s extensive experience in Open Source consumer electronics software product development.”

The Mentor Embedded IVI Linux Solution integrates graphics, communication and multimedia middleware with libraries, system infrastructure, and management components on top of Linux, and drivers for specific hardware. Mentor Embedded development tools and expert services provide a comprehensive solution for automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and their suppliers, enabling them to build the next generation of IVI systems and include open source software components.

A GENIVI 2.0-compliant demonstration based on the Mentor Embedded IVI Base Platform will be featured at the 12th annual Integrated Electrical Solutions Forum (IESF) event, targeting electronic design for automotive, commercial vehicle, and off-highway markets, on Thursday, June 14 in Dearborn, Michigan.

“Mentor Graphics has a long history of delivering best-in-class solutions for the transportation industry and our announcement of this GENIVI support means that OEMs and their supply chain can benefit from the long-term security of an industry-standard, open source base platform, coupled with Mentor’s IVI system design tools,” stated Glenn Perry, general manager of the Mentor Embedded Software Division. “As a board member of the GENIVI Alliance, we are committed to closely following the GENIVI standard and providing OEMs and their suppliers with the ability to base designs on an accepted standard platform. This will result in reduced costs and overhead benefiting the automotive community.”

As an active participant in GENIVI, Mentor Embedded closely tracks statements of requirement for IVI systems design. Mentor will continue to provide a compliant Linux-based platform for IVI systems designers as new GENIVI specifications become available.
