With the introduction of the TRACe-NET Ethernet switch, Kontron provides a switch that complements the company's existing line of TRACe transporation operational computers. The TRACe-NET xM8P2G-1 is an EN50155-certified fully managed Layer 2 industrial PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) switch with eight 10/100MB PoE ports and 2GB uplink ports.

Using industrial-grade components along with an optimised thermal solution, the TRACe-NET switch is designed and tested specifically for the rigors of the transportation industry. A key element of transportation system network infrastructure, TRACe-NET enables streamlined connectivity with peripherals such as IP cameras, passenger information displays, IP intercoms and Wi-Fi AP (access points) that are managed and controlled by TRACe computers.

The new industrial Ethernet switch features fast redundant ring technology that provides recovery capabilities of less than 10ms, even when it is installed with up to 250 switches, to deliver superior protection against network interruptions or temporary malfunctions. It includes a set of bypass ports, which allow the main network to remain connected in the event of a local power failure.

The switch is fully compatible with Kontron's entire TRACe family of transportation platforms. It is a suitable building block for an IP-based train. The TRACe-NET can work in combination with a TRACe computer acting as a TCMS (Train Control and Management System) so it can be used as an ETB (Ethernet Train Backbone) and ECN (Ethernet Consist Network). IP addresses will automatically be reconfigured in accordance with the IEC 61375 TTDP protocol.

TRACe-NET supports considerable flexibility from its extensive management capabilities inherent in a high performance switch. It can be configured using Kontron's view browser and Windows utility, enabling transit operators to manage and monitor all industrial switches on the network, and makes TRACe-NET compatible with other proprietary redundant ring technologies. Ideal for transportation environments, the xM8P2G-1 offers a configurable system with dual redundant power supplies in an IP40 housing.

"The new TRACe-NET switch answers our customers' need for a faster and more easily managed switch," said Robert Negre, Kontron Head of Transportation Business Line "With its powerful combination of port count, connector type, and power supply options, TRACe-NET meets the high connectivity, seamless and reliable operational capabilities our transportation customers have requested."

The Kontron TRACe-NET switch is available now.
