Kontron at embedded world last week took the opportunity to introduce its Embedded Server Kontron ZINC CUBE C232. The compact, cost-optimised design, expanded storage functionality, as well as the modular concept render it particularly scalable. It is tailored for complex computing tasks requiring the processing and analysing of huge amounts of data, such as machine learning or artificial intelligence.

By installing a Kontron TSN networking card, the Embedded Server can be used for Time Sensitive Networking with up to four ports. The desktop server is thus the ideal base for Edge-, and Fog Computing in the Embedded Cloud. It is available with 7th Gen Intel server class processors and can be equipped with up to 32GB DDR4 RAM.

The Kontron ZINC CUBE C232 was developed as a platform for industrial applications, analytics, artificial intelligence, Embedded Vision, and TSN concepts. It supports Intel XEON E3-1200 v6 and 7th Gen Intel Core(TM) i7/i5/i3 processors with an LGA 1151 socket.

Its two DIMM sockets allow for up to 32GB ECC memory. It features two Gigabit Ethernet ports and an independent IPMI port. Other interfaces include two USB 3.0 ports at the front and two more on the back, two USB 2.0- interfaces, and a VGA port as well as a PCIe x16 (Low Profile) extension slot.

The Embedded Server features two 2,5" SATA SSD/HDD and two 3,5" SATA SSD/HDD removable drives with currently up to 1TB and 8TB capacity each, as well as an internal M.2 2280 SSD. The Kontron ZINC CUBE C232 is certified for Windows 10, Windows Server 2012 R2, and Linux Server. The Kontron ZINC CUBE C232 is Microsoft Azure Certified and can be easily used with Microsoft Azure IoT Services.

Norbert Hauser, Vice President Marketing at Kontron S&T AG said: "The Kontron ZINC CUBE C232 is tailored for use at the interface of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT). It is the High Performance Computer (HPC) aside from the rough conditions of manufacturing, handling computing- and data-intensive production applications on-premise in the Embedded Cloud. Its reliability, scalability, processing power, and tool-free maintenance raise ROI and minimise service and maintenance costs. Its modular concept makes the Embedded Server easily customisable to meet customer requirements."
