BLE plug-in simplifies & speeds code generation
Reducing the development time of IoT devices and other applications based around BLE components from Toshiba, a Bluetooth Developer Studio (BDS) ‘plug-in’ has been announced by Toshiba Electronics Europe. BDS is a GATT (Generic ATTribute profile) -based application development tool provided by the Bluetooth SIG that helps developers create consistent Bluetooth services and applications across multiple chipsets and platforms.
Toshiba’s new BLE plug-in allows users to harness the power of the BDS to quickly and easily create optimised code for the company’s family of integrated Bluetooth ICs.
BDS, which was created by the Bluetooth SIG, runs on a PC and provides users with comprehensive graphical BLE profile design and debugging capabilities. The Toshiba BDS plug-in generates source code for standard and custom GATT server and client profiles that include GATT Services, GATT Characteristics, GATT Descriptors, GATT Operations and GAP (Generic Access Profile) Advertising. Using the tool, designers can generate ‘C’ code and rapidly create ‘ready-to-run’ test project files. These files can then be used with Toshiba’s SDKs and the corresponding starter kits for instant profile testing.
The new plug-in will reduce the time-to-market of applications based on Toshiba’s TC356xx BLE devices. These ICs are suited for a wide variety of low-power, connected applications including, mobile and wearable technologies, portable healthcare products, devices for smart buildings and PoS terminals or various other industrial applications.
