High-power connectors target EV vehicles
A portfolio of high-power connectors from Amphenol that are specifically designed for connecting up power cables used with electric vehicle (EV) drive systems is available at RS Components. Designed to be a safe and reliable solution for servicing electric vehicles, the MSD series of receptacles and plugs offers a tool-free solution for disconnecting an internal high-voltage battery pack and delivering short-circuit protection.
The device uses a two-stage lever system to open the HVIL (high-voltage interlock) circuit prior to contact separation. All high-voltage conducting surfaces on the receptacles are touch-proof to IP2XB.
A second range is the Excel-Mate HVSL (High Voltage Safety Lock) series of plugs and receptacles, which is designed for a variety of electric vehicle applications including power and signal interconnect.
Integrating the company’s RADSOK contact technology, one- to three-way devices are available with key electrical characteristics including rated voltage up to 1kV and a current handling range from 23A up to 350A.
A third series for EV applications is the Excel-Mate HVPT series, which provides a reliable and economical high-voltage pass-through connection.
Equipped with plastic housing and a cable gland, the lightweight series meets IP67, 360° shielding, rating to 1000V DC, and includes devices offering one-, two and three-way connections. Multiple coding positions are also available.
Lastly, the new Excel-Mate CCS Combo meets IEC62196-3 and enables the charging of EVs with AC or DC power. The Combo plug includes two DC power contacts to deliver exceptionally fast charging in public areas.
Both the CCS Combo inlet and the plug are equipped with a temperature sensor and a coloured LED to monitor charging status and temperature. The Combo is available in 60, 125 and 200A options in any required cable length.
The Amphenol high-voltage connectivity devices for electric vehicles are now shipping from RS in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.
