Connectors designed for combined signal & power transmission
Connectors designed for combined signal and power transmission have been introduced by Mill-Max. The devices, which include a five-pin, cable-to-board socket and header and a 40-pin board-to-board header and socket, remove the need for separate connectors for power and signal transmissions. The five-pin connectors feature two contacts for power and three for signal, while the 40-pin connectors have 30 signal contacts and 10 power contacts.
The cable-to-board connector pair consists of a board mount male header, P/N: 888-30-005-20-002000, and a wire termination socket, P/N: 888-93-005-00-001000. The header features a right angle through-hole and SMT board termination with anchor pegs on the housing for security and stability. Shrouded and polarised for alignment with the mating socket, the header has 0.81mm and 1.1mm mating pins plated in 0.762µm gold. The connector features solder cup receptacles that accept up to 24AWG wire on the signal contacts and 20AWG on the power contacts. The power receptacles are rated at 8A, while the signal receptacles are rated at 4.5A. The insulator housing for the connector is made from high temperature nylon 46 plastic, which is suitable for most soldering processes. The connector pair can be used to power small to medium devices and transmit data. The male board mount connector is suitable for passing through a panel or faceplate of the device, while the female is suitable for terminating to the cable end.
The 40-pin board-to-board connector features a 3X10 array of signal contacts on a 2.54mm grid. The socket, P/N: 809-43-040-10-001000, has four power receptacles rated at 11A and six rated at 8A. The signal contacts are rated at 3A each. The large field of signal pins provides flexibility for future expansion; all 30 signals may not be required for a current design but are available to the designer for changes and enhancements. The male header, P/N: 808-10-040-10-151000, is shrouded for protection and rugged applications. The connector housing is polarised for alignment and features standoffs to promote solder flow. The housing is RoHS compliant and the insulator material is made from high temperature ryton, which is suitable for most soldering processes. Measuring 10.5mm in height when mated, the connector can be used in rugged environments.
