Enclosures for ATEX-rated environments
Spelsberg has developed two new ranges of Ex rated enclosures designed to assist systems installers and equipment designers in meeting the ATEX requirements for zones 2 and 22 explosion endangered areas. The new Black Abox Ex, and TK Ex boxes offer moisture ingress protection to IP65 and IP66 respectively. Both employ tough reinforced polycarbonate bodies to protect electrical control and instrumentation systems from fire, dust, knocks and chemicals. Authorised for use in ATEX 100a applications by TUV Rheinland, the Ex enclosures are ideal for use in the process, manufacturing and offshore industries.
Spelsberg has developed the latest Black Abox Ex electrical enclosures to meet demand from electrical contractors installing lighting, automation and monitoring systems in offshore, refining and chemical processing industries. Designed for use in areas where the presence of dust, gas or chemical
vapours can create a potentially explosive atmosphere, the six enclosures offer the ingress, heat and impact resistance to meet the requirements for Ex rated zones 2 and 22 without the need for extra protection from cabinets.
The Black Aboxes share the same IP65 sealing, attractive lid design and ease of use as the popular and less extreme Spelsberg Abox i series. However, the new boxes feature an improved halogen-free glass fibre reinforced polycarbonate body to increase impact resistance, reduce flammability and
maintain strength and sealing properties in temperatures ranging from -35 degrees celsius to +40 degrees Celsius. Authorised for use in ATEX 100a applications and classified Group 2, category 3 GD equipment, the Abox Ex series is available with entries for 1.5 to 35mm squared conductors, making
them ideal for use in lighting, extraction, monitoring systems and help maintain emergency shutdown operations.
The second model in the new Ex range is the TK Ex series, it has a higher temperature rating and higher ingress protection than the Abox version and is being launched concurrently. TK Ex enclosures have been designed for applications where the enclosures may potentially be subjected to
temperatures of -35 degrees celsius to +70 degrees celsius and ingress protection of IP66 is required. The series encompasses 39 different box sizes which are suitable for use in ATEX 100a applications and classified Group II A, category 3 GD equipment. The boxes are supplied empty and allow
designers to ensure their systems meet Ex Zone requirements, facilitating integration and avoiding the costs of re-testing new or existing systems. Available with Ex cable glands and locknuts authorised for use in zone 1 and 22 applications, the enclosures are compatible with conductors from 1.5 to
35mm squared.
The Ex series enclosures are Authorised for use in ATEX 100a applications by TUV Rheinland, and can be supplied ready populated, with Ex rated terminals and cable glands. Spelsberg also offer a broad range of aluminium and Polycarbonate enclosures fully assembled and kitted with accessories such as
external mounting fixtures, DIN rail, terminals, circuit breakers, PCB mounts, hinge kits and cable glands. Enclosures with pre-cut bespoke entries and pre-drilled cable entry points are also available with short lead times. Spelsberg has the largest range of ex-stock plastic enclosures available in
the UK; the company's Telford headquarters is centrally located to provide immediate access to technical support and next day delivery on all standard items.
