DSM's extremely robust 8.4 panel system
As an addition to its 15 and 17 inch Infinity panel PCs, DSM Computer presents for the first time at the SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2009 a new panel system series with an 8.4 inch TFT display. The industrial panel has a luminance of 220 cd/m² with a maximum resolution of 800 x 600 pixels and has a resistive touchscreen.
To permit a fanless operation, the P8-A is based on the energy-saving Intel Atom N270 processor with 1.6 GHz clock rate. The Intel® 945GSE and ICH7M with 533 MHz front side bus are integrated as chipset. The standard main memory size is 1 GB, but can be optionally expanded to 2 GB. All functions are included on a circuit board with the consequent minimizing of the internal wiring.
The Infinity P8-A panel PC has omitted rotating mass storage and includes only a Compact Flash socket for 4 GB (or larger). For service and maintenance purposes, the CF socket can be accessed externally from a separate cover located on the rear side.
An external 80 watt power pack with 100-240 VAC supplies the power to the compact display computer. However, in particular in the industrial environment, the IPC can be connected directly to the power supply network via a 24 V power input.
The P8-A provides many interfaces, such as GBit Ethernet, two USB 2.0, PS/2 and serial ports. The LED located on the front side of the display indicates whether the LAN network is currently active and data traffic is taking place.
The principal operational areas of the panel system with 8.4 inch-sized display are display systems and client-server applications in industry for which the robustness and the compact construction assume major importance. Furthermore, the panel system is ideally suited for mobile operation. DSM Computer is already planning the development of a 12.1 inch panel PC.
