TI AI processor powers JUMPtec SMARC module
JUMPtec has released a new SMARC module based on TI’s AM67A scalable edge AI processor, which integrates up to four Arm Cortex-A53 CPU cores at 1.4-GHz, a 4 TOPS neural processing unit (NPU) and an extensive suite of on-device accelerators.
This design enables high-performance computing capabilities while simultaneously achieving lower power consumption compared to alternative cores. The new SMARC module based on the AM67A processor from Texas Instruments (TI) provides high-performance edge computing technology for both traditional and deep learning algorithms.
With a high level of system integration, this design enables scalability and lower costs for advanced vision camera applications. Key cores include Arm® and GPU processors for general purpose computing, next-generation DSP with scalar and vector cores, dedicated deep learning and traditional algorithm accelerators, an integrated next-generation imaging subsystem (ISP), video codec, and MCU cores, all protected by industrial-grade security hardware accelerators.
The SMARC module enables high-resolution 3D rendering with low latency and high data rate, supporting up to 8GB LPDDR4 memory, up to 32GB eMMC flash storage, and multiple high-speed interfaces, including USB 3.0, PCIe Gen 3, and two Gigabit Ethernet channels, optimised for Linux-based systems.
It supports applications such as robotic teach pendants, factory automation, medical, and test and measurement. The AM67A is a device that targets both the analytics and non-analytics markets, with end devices ranging from HMI and single board computers, up to multicamera vision systems with integrated edge AI.
“We recognize that AI and computer vision is one of the fastest growing markets for embedded and edge computing technologies. By offering a highly integrated processor platform, TI enables such applications and we are confident that the new market for AI edge server applications will benefit greatly from our Computer-on-Module approach to design these technologies for high data throughput”, said Peter Müller, General Manager at JUMPtec.
Besides AI capabilities, this solution also provides feature rich security support like:· Secure boot· Trusted Execution Environment (TEE)· Cryptographic coresAll driver support is fully upstream in the Linux kernel, enabling all users to profit from any driver updates as quickly as possible.
